How will the handling of the bike feel if a rear shock is blown?

I think it depends on the shock, but anytime theres a difference one side to the other it can cause unsafe instability especially at higher speeds.....be careful, get it replaced

Unless you see leaking, double check the shock bushings...  A worn out bushing(s) can cause the bike to 'wallow' or feel like it does not want to hold a line through a sweeping curve.

If you look at the upper shock mounts, check to see that the mounting bolt is dead center in the shock eye.  In some cases, the bushing can be worn all the way through, making the bushing look like a 'C', rather than an 'o', because one side has been chewed through.

If it is covered with oil, it has blown a seal.

Did you say it was a Progressive?

Give them a jingle and they just might fix it for free.

If they do charge ya, it is minimal.

One of my Progressive blew a seal and I rode for several weeks like that. Kind of a bouncy ride, but not particularly dangerous.
