I walk along side my bike when I'm putting it up on the lift table and I use the engine to help it up the ramp.  Once the front wheel hits the chock, I use the switch to kill the engine while holding the front brake, then let out the clutch to keep it from rolling back.

+1. I do this same procedure putting the bike on the lift table. When I am sure the chock has the front wheel secure the key is turned off. The transmission is left in gear till the safety straps are secure with the jack stands under the engine guard.

Do Valkyries have a rev limiter. I didn't think that was the case.  My VTX does and will cause the bike to cutout at about 6K. I have wrapped my 97 Valk up and never had it cutout.    Roll Eyes

In stock form, Valkyrie makes max horsepower 6000 to 6500 rpm.  limiter is set in that range. These three dyno runs, the limiter came on at 6500 rpm, where the torque  and horsepower lines end on the graph.  Hoser

Whats a run away engine?

When the throttle gets stuck open and you can't can't control it.

Marty

an Instructor told me years ago that engines don't run away ..... they overspeeed and mechanics run away.

A "runaway engine" is not likely with the rev-limiter on the Valkyrie.

Don't see the motor keep running since the tip-over switch will kill the motor.

A bunch of fallacious arguments!

We're not talking about the tip over switch.  We're talking about the switch that is to be used if you have a runaway engine.

if you've got a runway engine, just pull in the clutch....

......that'll slow her down.......

Back on the "meaningful" portion, I've bumped mine while reaching back up to disengage the throttle lock.  Cutting off the engine at freeway speeds, then switching her back on before touching the clutch equals one hell of a backfire.  I know this represents several errors on my part, but it still is an annoyance.  Perhaps I'll do the Chet's mod as well.

No, found a new switch and housing cheep and replaced the whole thing, since the starter switch was busted and some times would not work, finally seized up and would not work at all.  After reading the instructions for the mod, I found it beyond my limited skills in electrical repair work.  Funny, cause I was an aircraft electrician  in the Navy 40 years ago, but mostly just replaced parts.  Shocked
