History is interesting. When I think of the War of 1812 I usually think of the British attacking Ft. McHenry (1814), The writing of the Star Spangled Banner etc. "Rockets red glare" was real. One of the British ships had rockets on it. Hard to imagine in that day. Didn't do a ton of damage but was probably pretty scary on the receiving end.
the white house was burned in that war, James and Dolly Madison barely had time to flee and saved only a few items. they were expecting a dinner party that night. there is still a spot on the white house exterior that you can still see the burn marks.

there were some concerns about having the nations capital so close to the ocean that serious talk was given about moving it further inland. I agree we should move it to a spot between Oklahoma and Texas
