Jeff or Bagger John could one of you please help. I just recently sold my CB for my I/S when I looked in the neck for the noise suppressor, no suppressor there. I have searched the archives and seen that Jeff you had replaced your noise suppressor with a part from Radio Shack. Bagger John I saw where you had posted that if anybody needed to know how to make one that you could send schematics. When I send CB I would like to be able tell how to put a suppressor on if needed. Easy to make one - RadShack is still selling the required chokes. Digikey, Mouser or a similar company may have them as well.

You'll need two 100uH RF chokes (273-102) http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103978

and a connector set (P/N 02650) from The Electrical Connection:

http://www.electricalconnection.com/electrical-components/hitachi.htm

The chokes are connected in series - male pin to female pin - observing the same polarity through the circuit. In other words...you don't want to "cross the streams".  Wink

<--------()()()()()()()--------<

<--------()()()()()()()--------<

Is a fairly good representation of how the assembly looks; the left side is the male 2p Hitachi connector (which attaches to the fan connector) while the right side is the female 2p Hitachi connector (which attaches to the "supply" side of the circuit.

Cover each choke with heat shrink tubing before assembly, so the windings won't rub and eventually short positive/negative together. Then cover everything with a larger piece of heat shrink tubing; fill the void with some clear RTV silicone and shrink the outer tubing.

I would use an insulated 22ga flexible wire lead of around 3" length off each choke, as per Honda's design. These can be tie-wrapped together to add mechanical strength to the assembly.

You'll also want to install a filter capacitor across the alternator's output terminal to ground.

Here's a link to Bikebandit and the part number you'll need:

Bagger John:
I put a J&M2003CB on my 97 standard.  I believe it has a suppressor in it, but should I put the part you suggested on the alternator output terminal from BikeBandit?
Thank you.

Yes.

The J&M unit has an ANL (automatic noise limiter) circuit built into the CB's receiver, but without the filter cap, we still get a bit of alternator whine through the intercom circuit. I have the capacitor and one of these days need to pull Blondie's alternator and add it. Will post pics if people want them.

I just ordered the part from Bike Bandit.  If you get a chance to post a couple pics of install, I would appreciate it.

I have her Tourer apart for new tires at the moment...as I get it back together this weekend I'll pull the alternator, add the filter and take a few pix of the procedure.

That would be great.  Thanks. I hope to have the part Friday.
Sidenote:  That is a Honda OEM number.  On BikeBandit, it is the correct, $5 part.  On HDL's site, punch in that same number, and it is a $600 plus CB radio unit, all of it! Cheesy
Both Honda OEM numbers. uglystupid2

I found this pic while searching for alternator-related stuff. It shows the relationship of the filter capacitor to the alternator "hot" lead:

Hey, that works for me.  This is how to mount the one I have coming?
Thank you.

That pic is of a GL1500A or SE (Gold Wing) alternator but the principle is the same:

Insulated (red potted) side to "hot" (output) terminal; other side grounds to the alternator case.
