Loookeee What I got.

Went halves with my mechanic buddy and picked up an older Smithy Lathe/mill/drillpress today.  Kinda like this one,http://www.smithy.com/granite. Now to drag the father in-law/28yr machinist down to the shop and have him teach me how NOT to remove digits....Came with a bunch of Old Craftsman Calipers, dial indicators, and a bunch of precision instruments that I can't even identify, plus 3 milk crates full of tooling, bits, extra chucks, 2 rebuild kits, and on and on.  Gotta love auctions.

Sweet, now we have a member to make all the no longer made parts and bling. Enjoy it !!

Wow, very cool.

Brought back some memories. Served several years operating several types of lathes and various other equipment as an apprentice machinist with aspirations of one day becoming a Journeyman. Kept the funds coming in through the tail end and just out of high school, working for minimum wage pretty much.    

Have fun, watch them digits, looks like a great set-up.

That's awesome!  I've been keeping azn eye out for something similar.  Currently I have a 1950's Atlas lathe which has a milling attachment...but it's not the same.

What he said.  You can easily get more than the cost of the machine invested in tooling - 4-jaw chucks, rotary tables, end mill holders, quick change tool posts, etc.  The Smithy's are decent machines especially if you are limited on space.  Mine's been going strong for 15 years now.  Parts are still available through Smithy.

Get to Wholesale tool .com, they will have anything you need. They carry a couple of lines ,junk, nice, and expensive. The cheap junk, will do if it is for a one time use, the nice, is good stuff for the home machine shop. The expensive is for the professional machinest.  I have purchased alot of their stuff over the years, and have been happy with it.  There is also Enco, and Travers for the same stuff but they are more expensive.
