Life is full of risk, I would be a lot more cautious in a >=$500 transaction and not worry so much about the $25 ones.  (

westsidevalk......

You should be able to find those at any Ace Hardware.  Or online......McMaster Carr or Grainger.

As for buying and selling......

I've bought a bunch of stuff....on both the old and new classifieds.  Have had good luck so far...and scored some $eriou$ deals on the old classifieds.  I've also sold some stuff here also.  Whenever I did offer something for sale, I've given them plenty of pics because I want them to know exactly what they're going to get.  I'll only accecpt Paypal....it offers protections for both the buyer and the seller....and I ship through the Post Office with a Delivery Confirmation number.  If it's something expensive (over a 100 bucks), I'll buy the shipping insurance too.

So far, I think folks that have bought from me have been happy.  I know I've been happy with the items I've bought from folks here.

I just bought a sheild from a guy on the classified board. He sent the sheild the day after I told him I wanted it. I did not except him to do that. I sent him a CHECK the day he sent the sheild. Took him a few days to cash the check so I sent him a E-mail asking him if there was something wrong, his response was " I wanted to make sure you were happy with the item before I cashed your check" Now that in my opinion was a class act. I have sold  and given away quite a few items  through the classified adds. I belive in the system that US members have going here. I have also had some dealings with the French members and they too are very classy! cooldude

"She was built in August 1998, the 37th GL1500CT built that year, according to the VIN."

Thought I would offer up a (IMHO) great site that offers a lot of information/history on our Valks. If I understand it correctly your bike would have been the 37th one built of that particular color scheme.

I dont believe their is a reference to a specific color scheme in the VIN. So if they restarted the VIN with each color there would be duplicate VINS, which is not the case, I think what you may be making reference to is that the VIN numbers start over with each model year...and each varient?

Here is something I wonder. It says the use  cooldude

That's correct.  The VIN starts at 1 for each model variant, so you can't say with certainty it's the 37th Tourer built that year (although it could be), but you can say its the 37th Canadian Tourer, or the 37th California Tourer, or the 37th 49-State Tourer, etc built that year.

+1 on the positive buying/selling/being given/giving/horse trading. In my experiences here the good FAR outweigh the bad.

I've been a member here for a while, but I don't post much.  I lurk a lot, and have learned a lot over the years.  I think that length of membership, rather than the number of posts should be considered if there is any restrictions to listing in the Classified section.

Between the old board, and the new board, I've been registered for around 6 years. I got my first Valk
Dec. 2011, and I don't think I posted more than 1 or 2 prior to that time. When I got the new to me
IS, I sold off everthing I didn' need.
I have to say that it was a good experience, and I believe evrybody was happy with what they got.

I've many items on our classifieds.
I always include my name my VRCC Handle as well as my VRCC member number.

I try to decribe as accurately what I'm selling and do not get greedy (fair and modest) on pricing.
I someone is interested in what I'm selling, we email one another to dicuss any queries, price (always negotiable), and best shipping method.

I always insist on a Postal Money Order, to protect both buyer and seller.

REMEMBER: not every body abides by the "Golden Rule".

I can vouch for that, I purchased a set of chrome wheels from one of our vendors in Louisiana, Confirmed on the phone that I would mail a check the next morning, 2 days the wheels were delivered and I know for a fact the check arrived 2 days after I got the rims. That is trust.

Community stds are great.  My daughter had ordered me some shirts for fathers day. Somehow they got shipped elsewhere. Out of the blue I got a call from a member in Texas. He has my package and is shipping it to me in Minnesota. Got the shirts Thursday. Would loved to have talked more with him but had an appointment to keep. maybe later.
I do not post much, but I visit this site perrty much every night. Here is some of what I have found .
The high majority of the members seem genuine, and honest, they are happy for you if you get a "new" ride or a good deal on anything, they offer support to those have had trouble whether personal, family related , or valk related. I have only met a handful of these folks, and can't wait to meet more.
Can't get to inzane, gotta pay bills. To those who can, godspeed ride safe have fun.

I've sold some stuff and bought some stuff always been treated fair nd hope that I have never cheated anyone. My name address and phone number is always posted and I would be hurt if there was a issue I could fix and didn't know about it. My name is all I have and I would not trash it for a couple of bucks.
What grips  me is when selling something and you try to but a good price on it  even drop it 25 bucks and after flour or five e mails they  pull a dea deal for 15 bucks then imply that you are selling it for new price bs. I told my wife I would rather give it away to someone that would just make there day than nickel and dime on bs .

I was raised that a man's word is his honor and if you can't be trusted you're no good to yourself or society. My Dad pushed honesty more than any other value. I rec'd many reminders of the importance of telling the truth and you who are over 50 know exactly what those reminders were.  I tried to instill the same values in my kids. One of my favorite sayings was I will trust everything you tell me until you give me a reason not to and if you do break that trust it will never be the same again regardless of how remorseful you might be. Anyway, we all know there are people who will lie, cheat and steal and sometime or another we will get taken by one of these. But for the most part there are a lot of honest good people out there. I have both bought and sold several items here and have not had any problems so far. cooldude
