So me and a few are headed to Sturgis next week. I know its not rally week but we are all able to get away for a few days so were going. I was wondering if anyone nows a good camp ground around Sturgis, Deadwood area?  I am sure the big ones for the rally will not be open yet. Probaly only spending two days in SD are there any must rides while there? Will be riding in from the west past Devils Tower and probaly leaving same way as its the best way back home, but plan to do some the black hills while there.

needles highway, spearfish canyon road, lots of good stuff in the black hills
have a full tank before doing the badlands

the ride to ND was forgettable but the vistas and endlessness was not

drink lots of fluids and if you dont have an evaporative vest (highway dept vest) think about it and also one of those neck coolers also really save the day when its 100 plus and dry windy

My son and I stayed at the Spokane Campground on Hwy 16A, Iron Mountain Road which is a suggested road to cruise - Keystone area. Just north of Custer State Park.

This was not rally time (mid September 2009) and it was on our return Jeep trip coming from Niagara Falls.

Nice general area, I'd stay there again.

Have fun!

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

We stay at Rush-no-more. Its a yr round campground with nice crappers and showers. A pool and hot tub. I think its $10 a day, non rally time. Its all paved. Exit 36 or 38. There is only campgrounds at that exit. There is a KOA on the west side of Deadwood. Never been to it but it looks like a nice steep ride up to it! Spearfish has a neat looking one to, chris's camp ground I think. Valk rider here stays there. In Deadwood if you goto Mt Morhia to Hickoks grave, watch when parking. Its a steep angle that is hard to see. Bikes get dropped all the time.

Custer wildlife loop, Needles, Iron MNT Rd, Rushmore, crazy horse can all be done in one good day. Deadwood and Spearfish canyon are a must. Vanocker Canyon is a nice quiet rd. Exit 32. It winds to the west of Rapid, or there is a side road that will take you into Needle/rushmore area. Not sure the name of it but its hard to find. Stop in Alladin WY since you will go by it. Cheap drinks. Stone House saloon is between Alladin & Belle Fourche, if its open. Cont east into Belle Fourche and take the road thru St Onge to Sturgis. 212 I think. Bear Butte Mnt is kinda neat. East of Sturgis. You cant miss it. You can see it from the I/S from between Spearfish & Sturgis. Its a State park so go to custer/needles first then to BB. That way your Custer pass will get you into Bear Butte. Or you will pay twice.

Stop and get a map. Rest stops have them and so do most bussinesses.
