I won't complain about the wonderful rain we've had the last week or so, but it sure did
make for a muddy mess moving the Valkyrie under the pole barn...

My tire was good enough to go on several day rides, but I'll be glad there's a new
tire on there to go to Arkansas... This is the first tire I've changed with RideOn in it,
most of the (disgusting looking) RideOn stayed in the tire, the rest was easy to clean
off of the rim. I'll have RideOn (and no balancing weights) in both tires for the trip...

On my last tire, the pinion end of the drive shaft glistened with final drive oil, and it
looked perfect after I cleaned it up...

I was a little disappointed this time...

Could be worse...  Roll Eyes

I saw this one time (when I first got my Valk I put moly paste in there...)...

And this... no idear what I did wrong that time, but the seal backed out of the pinion
cup and just spun around on the shaft for a few thousand miles...

I'll be available to do final drive maintenance on YOUR Valk at InZane for $500 an hour  cooldude

Everything else looked fine in there...

I held the final drive with the cup pointed down and oil quickly drizzled out,
but now that I think about it (it is all back together now) I didn't verify that oil
came from both holes... voodoo...

I suspected my dampers were worn... they were...

I ordered some of the new style dampers.

I replaced my dampers with the old style a few years ago... they were a bear to get in
and the plate was hard to spin back on... these new dampers were real easy to get in,
and the plate was snug but didn't fight back... the flange snapped in reassuringly and
everything felt nice and tight...

Today I'll install the adapter plate for the new Givi trunk... I've already installed it in such
a way that Carolyn and I can use it together, but for solo I'll set it up closer to me
in case I have to chase the wild bunch down some bumpy roads on the way to InZane...
With it mounted with both seats on it's hanging way back there in order to be able to open
the lid all the way without hitting the sissybar. We'll just put light stuff (clothes) in there,
and I seem to poke along extra slow when I ride two-up... I've made it fine with just the
saddlebags for five days any number of times... This will be a seven or eight day trip, the
trunk will come in handy...

Glad you found it now, and not let it ruin your trip. Maybe instead of doing the maintenance at IZ for $500/hr, you could be Daniels assistant as a public service?

Have a good and safe trip, see you soon! cooldude

The pinion end of the drive shaft seems only slightly worn... I'm still using that shaft.  I found the
really cruddy one (the one I attributed to moly-paste-in-the-pinion-cup) before the trip to
Gettysburg (Blue/Gray Ride) and ran it for at least another tire... it wasn't any worse when I did
change it out...

Non critical final drive wear seems to be mostly arrested when you catch it and
clean stuff up and put it back together right...

I'm looking forward to it!  cooldude I got a Arkansas Red Book, and know how to locate several
of the recommended roads on it (like the Pig Trail...) I'll study a few more before I leave...

Nice pic of POP at Daytona.

Yep the Harley tires of yesteryear were car tire look a likes, but were in fact motorcycle tires of the day.

You both have good taste in color scheme.

Like both bikes the red and white Valk and red and white Harley.

All done... tars filled wth RideOn, Trunk installed, it is even washed a little bit...

I guess the trunk's on there pretty solid... seems like a giant goiter hanging off the rear
fender... I left the solo bar on there for.. extra rigidity? The saddlebag lids miss the trunk
by about an inch...
