« on: July 17, 2012, 04:16:52 PM »

I am looking at going back to CT.
I wanted the Falken Ziex 512. No longer available in the size I want, 205/60/16. I then decided on the Kumho run flat, same story, not available in the size I want.
I did lots of research and like the looks of the following three. Anybody running any of these? Like them?

                Bridgstone Potenza G 019 Grid, V-rated 205/60/16

                Sumitomo HTR A/S PO1, V-rated 205/60/16

                Yokohama Avid Envigor V-rated 205/60/16

When I make my choice, I have a new Avon Cobra 200 with 600 miles on it that will be for sale as well as a GoodYear Triple Tread with no visible wear.
I will post them when I'm ready with my new tire. Both will be cheap.

I have the 512 and love it, but i would not be afraid of this tire either:
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/tires/falken/size/viewProductDetail.do?pc=18693

This is the tire we put on a friends bike.

I have not riden the bike with that tire, but he claims he can not feel the difference between it and the bald avon he took off the rear.

Another friend just put a douglas from walmart on the rear of his, and after about 300 miles, he claims to hardly notice a difference.

hope that helps and adds to your list of things to think about.

I don't remember if mine is the G019, but as you probably remember, I am running the Potenza on the Rocket III, it's a 225/60-16.  Valkyrie has a 205/60-16 Bridgestone HP550 on it.  I probably have only around 15000 on the HP550, but it is getting a little long in the tooth, without looking at the records, I think I have had it on for 4 years.  Probably time for a new one.  Iris really likes the ride better than the bike tire.

I like that tire , tread pattern and rounded edges. Want it in a 60 series,
I just don't want to run a 55 series and increase my RPM and drop fuel milage.

I'm 5000 miles into a Potenza G019 205/60-16 and I love it! First time Darkside rider, I don't see myself going back. Once past the short learning curve (~100mi.) and tire break-in (~1400mi.) it rides as well as or better than a MC tire.

but why v rated not h

Not that most would ever have the need but 'V' is rated for about 20mph more than 'H' and is the sports car tire of choice, unless you're rich and have a car worthy of 'Z' tire.

Also.. perhaps you'd want to inflate to a psi higher than to what an 'H' is suited.

I know about the speed rating, was just wondering if the v having a stiffer sidewall worked better on bike.  Trying to go darkside

There is not any notation on the tire regarding sidewall "stiffness" and there is no relationship of stiffness of the sidewall to the speed rating of the tire.

There is a ply rating of a tire but refers to the actual number of plies but again can be considered arbitrary because you can have a 4-ply tire that is rated a 6-ply tire.

I think the tire type such as LT (light truck) might be considered as a clue to sidewall thickness/stiffness but is not a sure thing.

You can find some of the higher speed rated tires with lighter weight when compared to lower speed rated tires that can be found considerably heavier.

I most always look for the heavier tires feeling they are the best for my Valkyrie when compared to the lighter tires. All the tire manufacturers post their tire weight.

+1 on the Austone.     I just did an 1100 mile trip and now have 2000 miles on mine.  Loving it.

Tundra,

I have just mounted my 5th car tire on my Valk Interstate. Leaving Friday am for South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming road trip and needed new tires. Approximatly 85,000 miles on rear car tires.

I tried the Yokohama Avid Envigor V-rated 205/60/16 this time and I think it is the best handling tire I've had to date. Prior to this I ran a Dunlop Sport, Toyos, a General Altimax which I thought was great. But the Yokohama has that rounded tread when mounted and I have no rub issues as with the other tires.

I fear that I'm giving the Falken ZIEX ZE-512 a bad name since I've been rescued from the side of the interstate by a trailer-hauling Hozer twice in the last couple of months.
But... it's not the tire's fault.  The first one was a faulty valve stem and yesterday I picked up a nail.

Really?  I just bought one from them about a week ago, same size.  I like it so far, maybe I should buy a couple more.

I'm on my second Potenza G019 205/60-16  now and it is one of the best CTs that I've ran. I get the V rated tires because I had a  wobble from the only H rated tire that I ever ran. It was up arround the triple digit area where it started to wobble. I've never had this with a V rated tire. I keep 38 psi in all my CTs as more seems to wear the centers out early.

What would be the size closest to mc tire in a car tire and will it rub without doing modifications 2UP pulling trailer. Would like to keep the height of the tire about the same, dont need any more RPMs at highway speeds. Thanks

60 series is pretty close to stock tire height. Do the mod while the tire is off it is very easy to do. I would be worried going 2 up and loaded without doing the mod.

   Very interesting...   my 205 60 16 GTT runs 3000 rpm @ 70 mph too ???

Does that mean the Falken 65 diameter is the same as Goodyear 60?
