That's like my sixth bike. A '75 Yamaha XS650 Special. Wish I still had it. Yeah.. that was a beautiful bike and it ran real strong. Handled like a dream and was reliable to boot. I would also keep right up with my buddies 750 Triumph and another guys 850 Norton Commnado.

Me and my first bike. 23 years old. 1973. I had a new 71 blue Kawasaki 500 2 stroke 3 cylinder in 1971.....my first new bike.....I was 21 and after droooooooling over "Then Came Bronson" I took my first long distancetrip on that bike from Houston, Tx to the Grand Canyon and back.......that's when I really fell in love with long distance riding. I think the 71s were even faster than the 73s, but they were all rocket fast. Mine shook apart after 2 seasons though, so I went for a 75 Yami twin after that. Not as fast, but more reliable and handled a bit better.

A 1974 Triumph 650 Bonneville bought used in 1984. Shifter was on the right side ... foot brake on the left. Heard about it from a guy I met, told the wife and her only stipulation was that here youngest brother go with me since I am not very mechanically inclined. Guy wanted $300 for it. When we got back she asked her brother what he thought and he said that if I wasn't going to buy it he would. She looked at me and said "Well it's your decision." So off I went to buy the Triumph and that was probably the last time she told me "well, your decision." Had that bike about 4 years & 10k miles ... sold it for $300 .... figured I broke even .... took the money and bought a 1983 Honda V45 Sabre. Great bike! It would just fly down the road. In 1995, after 6 years and 40k miles I sold the Sabre and bought a 1984 Goldwing Interstate. Definetley a lot different then the Sabre and took a little getting use to all the creature comforts. In 2001 I had put on around 50k miles on that Goldwing and broke down in New Mexico. Long story short, I traded the Goldwing in on a brand new Valkyrie Interstate that I have been riding ever since. Have put just under 88K on it and see no reason why I can't put at least another 88K miles on her.

When I got back from the Grand Canyon in 1971 my bike got stolen. Never was found. I had insurance and bought another just like it. Rode it for several years and then turned to BMW's

Here's a pic of a bike just like my first bike, my old pics are long gone. It's a 1946 Matchless 500 cc thumper hard tail. I got it in 1947. My buddy and I took a 1600 mile trip on our Matchlesses in 1949. When i saw a big bump coming, I just stood up on the footpegs. Nice bikes...I had a Matchless 500cc Twin in the middle 50s.....smooooth...so nice. I liked it more than the BSA 650cc Golden Flash Twin which was my first ride and a very nice bike too.....

Number Three, last week Just imagine a bone-stock black '99 Interstate here. I knew you could. I don't see it. It's been a real long time since I've seen an Interstate that was "bone stock". Raymond As far as I can tell, the only things that weren't on it when it left the showroom are the tires and the miles on the odometer. I'm fixin' to change that. Very nice Interstate TwoDogs. Our opinions of stock may vary though. I would say that your bike has some Honda Genuine Accessories added, chrome side covers, trunk and saddlebag top racks, trunk and saddlebag side guards, front air deflectors.. I guess those could be said to be "stock" but I would call anything more then the assembly line installed additions to a stock configuration Interstate. Nice bike, and I hope you enjoy adding more items to it. Raymond

Learned alot to get it running, always burnt my leg on that crazy exhaust setup. No electric start, I wore a hole in my boot to get it started until I got it running right. Tonysax

1st was a shared with 4 others minibike in the 60's then came a honda scooter, I think it was a 50cc. Then in 1973 a BSA 650 Lightening. She was plenty fast for those days. Lots of good memories. Sold it to a buddy who totaled in within two weeks. Pic of one at Barber's. Mine wasn't quite as clean but was a beauty. Was always popping wheelies even while turning.

That kinda dawned on me when I was googling around for photos of a bike "exactly like mine" and started noticing - hmm - none of the chrome guardy-stuff or racky-stuff on these. I didn't notice the deflectors or side covers either. Oh, well. It's already got a different windshield than in the pic. The mailman showed up with an oversized Show Chrome shield shortly after the photo was taken.
