Fellow Valk riders, I have an issue that I would like your help with. I'm new to the forum, but have been riding my Valk for about 20k miles. Unfortunately, I went down last December and banged my bike up pretty bad. I thought it was all cosmetic damage until yesterday. I've been putting her back together and getting her road worthy. I changed the oil yesterday and a piece of metal measuring 1/2" x 1/4" and about 1/8" thick came out of my oil pan. I was wondering if anybody had any clue as to what this might be. Since the accident, I've started the bike several times (which I probably shouldn't have done). Every time I had her running, she sounded great! I was going to roll down to TN on her, and hit the dragon this weekend. It looks like this delay might make me take my spare bike. Please give me your input, I want to get her back on the road ASAP!!!

Are you sure that piece of metal wasnt in whatever it was you drained the oil into and that it didnt really originate inside the engine. Did you see it come out or did you just see it in the oil?
Yes pictures....always

That's a pretty big chunk to be passed through the drain hole.

I guess the first thing to do would be to check and see if it's steel or aluminum.
A magnet will do it!
Another would be to look at the edges, all of them and determine what, if any are mill or fracture.

Since there is no "oil pan" I'd wonder how something that big came out of the drain plug. If I wanted something to come out of that hole It would never happen. I'd fight it for days.
That said, some better crash damage descriptions and pics would be nice. I have heard of head damage do to the cam holders in a crash. But that would just be a wag.

Take a good look at your oil filter. When I change oil I don't look at it drain, I just drain it then remove the filter onto the drip pan. Unless you saw this thing fall out of the drain hole, it may be a part of the filter broken off in the crash. Fred.

As this is the first post for ddomino3 I guess we have to cut him a sprout, but the lack of further responses smells fishy. May just be a fish

" Since there is no "oil pan" I'd wonder how something that big came out of the drain plug " dirty drain pan .... I mean... really, Once a long time ago, I dropped a Jesus clip in the valley of a motor I had the intake off of. I heard it hit the pan, and was tempted to ignore it. But instead I spent hours trying to fish that thing out the drain hole. When I finally got it to the hole I realized it was bigger then the hole. So I had to bend it in half while keeping it over the hole. I did get it out though.

I still think its a leg puller, but the oil pan could be the drain pan.........

Well, sorry for the confusion. The piece fell into my oil pan or container (the thing that you drain the oil into). Upon further investigation, the piece of metal actually cracked off of one of the fins on the bottom of the motor. I am certainly relieved. Thanks for all of the HELPFUL input!
