Believe I have a bearing going out on the out put shaft, where the u-joint connects or one of the gears that drives it. Noticed the bike was getting a buzzy noise coming back from Inzane. With the bike on a lift, I can spin it up in gear, hold the clutch in and kill the motor. Definite whirring sound coming from around the out put shaft area. Had a rider on the back, he described it as a moan or howling sound. I really hate to drop the motor, but looks like I will have to. Any one had to replace the bearings there ?. I consider my self to be a good mechanic, just have not had to get into the inner case yet. Any hints from some one that has done this would be greatly appreciated. Oh and I did check the final drive, installed a spare I had, and still makes the same sound. U-joint only has about 5,000 miles on it.

Try putting a jack under the swingarm to take some of the bind off it to see if it's still there...

I did that this morning, sound is still there. Going to listen to it with a stethoscope later to see if I can pin down the exact spot the noise is coming from.

The Valkyrie drive line was not designed to run at an angle such as when up on a lift. Normal operating condition makes the drive line a straight line deal when loaded with a driver. A single u-joint will not run smoothly with any angle of the two axis more than a couple of degrees. There is potential for damage to the drive line when running with the rear hanging at the bottom of travel of the rear shocks. ***

Any chance you got access to a motorcycle dynomometer to recreate conditions under normal load while you stand and listen?

I wish I could, I started hearing the noise at inzane, and all the way back to Florida. Did not seem to get any worse. If I cannot come up with any thing, going to drop the motor and look at the bearings. The noise is there in all gears, but not really noticeable unless accelerating, seems normal at speed and during decel. I am going to pull the chrome tranny covers etc off, and use a stethoscope to try to pin down the exact location it is coming from.

Check the alternator and the rubber dampeners in it's drive-slot. I know you said it seems to be from the right, but stranger things have happened.

I found the problem I have with the Valk, looks like the final drive is toast, had another one on the shelf, but it will need ring and pinion and bearings to repair it. Expensive. Guess it is going to be parked a while before I can afford to repair it. Sucks, but it happens.Funds are real tight right now, hope fully I can get it repaired in a couple months.

Haven't tore into it yet, but sounds like a bunch of marbles rolling around in a can when I spin it, cannot be good, probably one of the bearings has come apart. I put over 1000 miles on it getting back from inzane, it was starting to howl and making nasty noises when accelerating. I am going to wait until I see what this storm has in store before I dismantle it, may have to get it in the trailer to haul out of here if it becomes a hurricane.
