40's sounds about right.  At 60 is OK, but choke for a second does not hurt.

The man I bought my Valk from very carefully showed my how to get full choke.  I never would have pushed that hard on my own, and I would have had the same starting problems!

I made the same mistake with my choke when I first got my I/S.  After the good folks on this board straightened me out, the bike started right away.

I am curious about your situation.  I only need to use the choke if the temperature is below 40 degrees F.  This time of year in South Carolina I don't have that problem.  Do you live in the mountains?

At what temperature to the others in this thread require using the choke?

I live in Central VA just outside of Charlottesville. The temperature never really gets very cold here. And you also have to take into account that I bought this Trike in December and still haven't taken it out yet. I had just finished doing all of the upgrades to her and was finally going to take her out when this 'no start' situation happened. I had started it a few times over the months and never had any problems. So basically the Trike is still very new to me as far as being familiar with it's "personality". Pushing the choke past the point of resistance is something I would have never done for fear of breaking something and also figuring that at that point, it WAS fully closed.

I'm glad that she's going again.  We all just live and learn and not asking the question is much worse than asking.  I have always heard that "there are no foolish questions, but you might get a foolish answer".  And there is nothing wrong with ANY answer, just so long as someone is sincerely trying to help...JTL
