My Valkyrie runs well, but I get that awful odor reminiscent of that pre-ignition odor from cars. I hope I'm using the term pre-ignition correctly. When you shut off a car, but the engine keeps puttering and won't shut off. The ensuing odor is the same odor I get from my Valk. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I think the correct term for what you're describing when a car runs on after the ignition is off is dieseling. The smell is no doubt (regarding a dieseling car) incomplete combustion.

Why your Valk smells like that is certainly not from the same cause. Maybe a bad plug, bad plug wire or connection, a bad carb float, a dirty air filter, a pin hole in your petcock diaphragm allowing gas to run down the #6 vacume tube., pilot screws badly adjusted. There must be more possible causes but basically a miss or rich condition could be the culprit.

I'm going to assume the engine shuts off when the key is turned and doesn't keep on running[ dieseling]..
So,, when do get the smell ??  While the engine is running or after the engine has stopped running/shut off ??  If it smells rich at idle,, thats normal..

It smells during idling, such as at red lights. It shuts off fine.

Thanks.

I dunno.

I get that roasted chicken smell from time to time.

It happens mostly when I'm going too fast.  cooldude
