So your bike has how many cylinders?

Universal City, TX

« on: August 31, 2012, 06:40:09 AM »

Went on vacation in my RV pulling my 2002 Honda Civic EX.  Day 1, the Civic's transmission went out.  Long story short, car became a trailer for 3300 miles.  Anyhow, took to dealer and tranny is officially toast.  Guy on Craigslist re-builds them locally for $1900 (total with labor) with 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty.  All American parts and even recommended by dealership.  Anybody ever hear of this guy Wayne or know a good reliable place to get tranny work done.  I'm tempted to buy a used from a salvage yard, but turns out the 01-02 Civic have a known trans problem.

Did it go out from pulling?  Is it an auto?  I've been told you're not supposed to pull automatics with the drive wheels on the ground (and thus turning) without the engine running.

Hey Sarg. , did you pull your car with a tow bar ??? or did you use a car dolley ??? If you used a car dolly you shouldn't have had a problem ....  anyway ask that guy IF he works on 2001 Toyota Corolla's tranny , because the wifey burned up her standard 5 - speed by NOT changing out the gear oil in the tranny after 9 yrs.  2funny  2funny .... Oh well pay me now or pay me later  Shocked  ....  Thanks the Geezer  crazy2

OK, met with Wayne from Texas Transmissions (410 & Babcock basically).  Seems like a good knowledgeable mechanic who stands by his work.  Everything I read online about him and his business seems on the up and up.  Even those that weren't 100% satisfied said Wayne paid for their rental as he made the necessary re-work.  I will roll the dice and pray for the best.  Still cheaper than a car payment.

Yep, went out pulling it but I've pulled it over 40,000 miles already.  Something just happened?  Looking into getting a car tolley for the future.  Found one made in Houston which is a car/motorcycle tandem dolly.  Kinda pricey but only twice as much as the tranny repair bill so in the end, I guess I can justify it.
