I sold my first Valk to a buddy in Florida, a 1998 Standard. Anyhow, after riding her trouble free for 6 years. the tranny is giving him fits. He noticed it dropping into neutral when downshifting into 3rd or 2nd. now it is making some terrible noises too. His question is, does he have to remove the engine and tranny together, or can he divorce it while on the bike to open up the tranny and dive into it.

Tranny and motor are all one unit. I haven't ever seen a bad tranny on a Valk or Gold Wing myself. If the tranny is truly bad, I would just buy a used lower mileage motor and swap them out. I'm not sure, but, I think the motor cases have to be split to get to the trans gears. I would get a service manual and look it over before I did anything. These bikes are of unit construction,, but,, thats known by anyone just looking at one.. The transmitter is very rugged and not too susceptible  to damage..  Jumping  out gear is usually just caused by shifting technique..
