I have a LOT more respect for the 'boots on the ground workers'... working to fix the problems .. than any singer or hollywood celeb.. doing a couple hours of singing...basking in the glory....
Jersey lost my respect when they turned away non union powerline workers coming from Alabama to help in a time of crisis.....   It must not be that bad.hey.. it was barely a cat 1 storm.....A couple more weeks of no power is evidently not a big deal for them...

I will tell you this.  After hurricanes here... we are always pleased and proud to see the folks that come to help, and I have always made an effort to tell them 'thanks'.
That's not to say I don't feel for the folks that are out of power, have lost their homes or loved ones.....  I just don't understand the thinking of people that are so ingrained in their bias that they would refuse help for those that need the help in a bad situation .

...Well Mark..he,s not just some "hollywood celeb"....he is from jersey...born n bred...as is John Bon Jovi and Brian Williams...Ive seen what hurricanes have done to Galveston in the past....and I also saw what it did to Atlantic City ....and surrounding area.....I saw on the news where a mother in New York had her two young children torn from her arms by raging flood waters, only to be found a few days later in the debris...dead.

...Neither of us know exaclty what the facts were in this incident...but my feeling is ...NO ONE...no matter what state they were from would turn away anyones help if it was needed...I saw on the news just today where folks in New York were pleading for help...why did these folks not go there and try to assist them ?

....We are all Americans...and it used to be that when something as terrible as this happened...anywhere...the rest of the country came to their aid....with sympathy...apparently thats not the case anymore...especially on this board.....and thats a damn shame..

The good news is, the boys from Alabama did go to New York and help out fellow Americans....
If you want sympathy with conditions.... well... ya get what ya get.  And it is a damn shame.

As I said, my heart goes out to those that are hurting from the storm.... been there done that...., but the 'powers that be' have thwarted the help from fellow Americans that have answered the call of mercy and they have been rebuked.  Tell me how we are to blame.

These people have millions of dollars. They ARE the 1%. Yet the best they can muster is to absorb resources doing a "benefit"? How about actually pitching in and helping with that mountain of cash they are sitting on? Undecided

That is what happens when ya get Politics involved in the help.

Can Obama blame that on Bush?    I'll bet he sure as hell tries.

I'm also done forwarding Political Posts I recieve in my e-mail boxe(s).

I've already voted absentee, so I'll just set back and she what the results are on Wednesday morning when I get up around 10:00 AM.

Just in case anyone misunderstood,  I posted my comment as a comment only.  Power crews WERE turned away.

I have relation who live in Whiting New Jersey.  I called them and they were safe.  The people of New Jersey are just like the people in Indiana. Good people.

I was only commenting on the inappropriate action and mindset of a union in New Jersey.   I didn't see any such action by the unions in Indiana during our long outage in Indiana last summer.

I hear ya Dave, but don't paint with too broad of a brush...  Wink

Lotsa good folks here, and most are watching the east coast with a tear in their eye.  I know you have a special place in yer heart for 'Joisy', and I feel yer pain.  Emotions are running high, between the disaster, election (is that an oximoron?), and the pending PMS season...  Bruce and the gang probably raised enough $$$ to put 'boots' and equipment/supplies on the ground, for weeks or months to come.  They helped in the best way they knew how  cooldude

...I hear ya Steve...there are a LOT of great folks on this Board...and Staff tolerated me at my worse when I was exorcising some Hellacious demons in my life...and for that I thank them...again..

...And you,re right....All my family and a few good friends..including my brother in the wind Johnny live there...Jersey took a direct hit and a lot of folks are now truly hurting there and New York....but both States are tough and proud...and they will come back...Strong

....just a side note here...Governor Christie (R) of new jersey is a stand up guy ...and under his leadership jersey will recover....I never voted republican in my life...but I like his style and would vote for him if I still lived there....even if he is confused about what party he should belong to..  Cool

Here's my take, for what it's worth. Kudos to the entertainers for using there considerable talent to raise money to help those that are surely in need of it. All that they raised went to the Red Cross. They are the best on the planet when it comes to cutting through the bullshit and getting the job done. i was proud to make a donation, wish I could do more, and maybe I will. As far as the union thing goes, my understanding is non union utility workers from Alabama were turned away by union workers in NJ. They proceeded to Long Island where they were welcomed. Sometimes unions tend to brainwash their members into thinking any non union function is a direct attack on them. Sad, but true. But peoples emotions are running high, understandably. Probably a factor, who knows. As far as slamming Donald Trump, i venture to guess he contributes more to charity than everyone that has ever posted on this board, combined. Keep bashing the rich, Moms, it just underscores where your bias lies.

..Our feelings run basically parallel Gary. Except for maybe the unions. I dont know how much experience you,ve had with them if any, but I can tell you they are a different animal on the East Coast. Many years ago I swung a hammer for a living. We built custom homes, additions, but our bread and butter was building Burger Kings up and down the East Coast and Pennsylvania. We subcontracted from a big construction firm out of NYC. We used all air power and the only time we pulled our hammers, was tear something back off. We got so good at it that they were more or less like a big erector set to us.
One we built was in the money town of Medford Lakes. It was a high end Burger King right in the middle of the parking lot of a brand new strip center being built that was ALL union.  We were not union. It didnt take the Project Manager on the strip center long to figure out he had a non-union crew working in "his" parking lot.
Our project manager wound up giving him the roof and parking lot paving as a "bribe" so nothing would happen to our building. We didnt care because we did neither. Then one day we were all sitting around eating lunch when a dark blue sedan pulled up and two suits got out and flashed badges...FBI.
They informed our project manager that he needed to give the dumpster contract hauling away our waste "back"  to the original company that was hauling it. It seems he was quietly persuaded to give up the contract to ...the mafia. The FBI had been investigating the scheme the entire time and caught the mob red handed. The point Im making is the unions and mob  a lot of times were the same back then. The unions still have a LOT of power in the tri state area and they are VERY territorial...And you,re right, the delegates tell them to kick ass...and they kick ass. Im not saying its right...Im just saying its reality.

Now..As far as George goes, it seems to me that you have some kind of axe to grind with him. When ever he post..anything..you invariably have some rude comment to make to him. Ive seen you do it again and again. I dont know what your motivation is, and really dont care, but it seems kind of ironic to me that you behave that way over on this Board, when we both know if someone continually did that over on the Michigan Board, you wouldnt tolerate it. Its your business if you want to continue to be rude to George, but please dont do it in my thread.

Sorry about using your thread to try to police George's antics. Him and I just don't see eye to eye on alot of things. Not really an axe to grind though. I just tried to type in what it is that gets under my skin but deleted it about three times, lol, lets just say things aren't always as they seem, to George, probably the same with me. I do have a small understanding of the unions on the east coast and am aware of how ingrained they are there, probably nothing like you do though, having been from there. It's just truly a shame when well meaning folks that are trying to help run into their "way of doing things".
