I recently bought a '98 Yellow/Cream Std and the exhaust headers are blued badly. The previous owner didn't ride the bike much but apparently he idled it too much and too long.  What is involved in having the exhaust headers redone in chrome?  I've never had anything chromed, can they just do the headers with the muffler still attached? I know that I've got other options, like a ceramic coating, but I'd like to put the bike back to original with chrome exhaust headers.

Any suggestions about who to contact about getting this done or ideas about the cost?

Thanks in advance!

Most chromers would only want the part you wanted chromed, or the mufflers cut off.

Watch the classified and evil bay for stock exhaust systems.....

Would be mucho cheaper in the long run.......

ceramic coating is probably your only choice other than finding a new set of pipes.

Chromers don't want to contaminate their solutions, so they won't touch used pipes.

You've confirmed what I thought Sad

After I made the original post I found a set of factory exhaust that was removed soon after that bike was new.  I'm going to probably go that route and make a trade for a set of Two Bros pipes that I've had sitting around for a couple of years.

It sure is nice to be able to ask dumb questions on this board and get good answers,  Thanks!

You can also try a producut called blue away which is a cream chemical.  I used ot quite often when I had my Ural, and alot of BMW and Harley owners have been know to use it as well.  It is made in Germany, and most BMW motorcycle shops probably carry it.  Back a few years ago i believe that a tube would cost about $7.00

I don't understand how it work but it does.  If the chrome is not pitted and otherwise in good condition I would go that route.  I'm still suprised that the pipe blued because it should be a double wall construction which  should have kept the pipes from blueing.

Hi LuckyDuck.  I think you should give the Two-Brothers to your brother, and try the blue remover.  If the paste doesn't work, atleast your brother is happy!  Thats a nice Yeller you got! Wink
