Cleaning up the bike this afternoon. Pull off the right side cover. All appears fine and dandy. Go to put it back on and I can't get it to "lock" in so to speak. It has 3 points that it affixes to the bike. The lower tab, the side with the grommet , and the upper tab on the front that has a small rectangular hole. It is where this upper tab towards the front fits into that is the problem. It fits into a slot in the center panel where THERE USED TO BE A TAB that fit into that rectangular hole. It broke off flush with in the center panel hole. Tiny little plastic tab. Any solutions?
Right now I got it jury rigged with a paper clip. Stuck it through the hole in the cover tab and bent it so it so when I insert it into the center panel it applies a degree of pressure and holds the corner of the side cover in place. It's not a bad fix but looking for something more conventional and looks good.
Glue is not really an option.
Then I went and tore a grommet on the other side panel. It's holding but will need a new one.

A more permanent fix would be to just replace the center and side cover. There's usually some on ebay.

And break it again.. Gotta be careful. I've broken my share already.

Mike, both of my side panels have a missing ear.
Now, they wear velcro on the frame post.
Been holding like that for about 150K.
I think if memory serves me correctly, I had to change the velcro on one side.
You can order a new grommet from HDL, or have the Honda dealer in Storm Lake get ya one.
