Let me start by saying that i am a new owner to a 2000 Interstate. And yes, I agree, I should have gotten it 12 years ago !!!

Here's my problem that I need help with. I'll try to make it clear and understandable.
The battery died so I pulled the seat off. I saw that a mouse (or whatever) had chewed a wire in half. After some research I have learned that it is the 3 (3.5?) mm female plug for components. (Ipods and such).

So, the questions is, ,,,,, since I have to fix said wire, should I relocate it or make it longer? Where do you put your Ipod or Iphone when you plug it in? Do you put it under the seat or wedge it behing the cover on the right side?
IF you did relocate the plug, Where would you put it and how would you route the wire?

Thanks for any tips or suggestions you may have. I'm VERY uneducated about the Interstates. I've been riding for years but never on a bike with so many whizz-bangs. There is no CB or CD changer if that matters

thanks again

I connected a 6ft extension and then ran it to the tour pack. I then drilled an inconspicious hole where both a powerlet 12 volt receptical and the 3mm cord enter the pack.

This way I can charge my phone and listen to my playlist

Where you relocate it will depend on what you want to use it for.A GPS on the bars will mean you want it up front. If you carry an Ipod in your pocket, then leave it where it is.

I'm thinking i'll be using it for an Ipod or my Iphone. I'm thinking I want to run the wire into a bag for security reasons.
But then again I have a Ram mount on the handlebars for my phone (GPS)
CRAP !!! Now i'm confused !!!  Undecided
Any suggestions on running that extra wire into the trunk ?
thanks again

When you fix it, put in a second lead. Run one to the handlebars and one to the trunk/bags. Should only have one plugged into a device at a time, and keep the plug you are not using covered.
Or, fix the wires and get a splitter to run lines to front and back. Radio Shack should have what you need.

That is what I did on mine. That way I can run my gps, satellite radio, phone, etc. I have a power source wired in to my trunk.

Wherever you decide to mount it, make sure you use a weatherproof style plug/outlet.
West Marine is a good source if you have one locally.

Best of luck
