Had mine since 2001 without any problems associated with the quick release mechanisms. Mine have developed spider cracks near the releases mostly due to my overloading the bags, but I don't expect that this will cause catastrophic failure since I no longer overload the bags. I installed a set of these on my Wife's VTX a few years ago and even she can figure out how to latch and unlatch them... They are good bags for the money. I have a new set in the attic that I'm going to install on my Rocket 3 using the k-drive mounting brackets and quick release latches from my current k-drive leather bags. Here are a few pictures of the bags I had custom painted....which cost more than the bags themselves.

I had them on my '99 for a while. They functioned adequately & they looked good on the bike but..... The quick release mounts would not line up properly for me no matter what I did. Sooooo I poked the Dzus fastener part of the mounts out & just bolted them to the mounts with stainless hardware & rubber washers. Worked good just took a couple of minutes to remove. No biggie. Ended up replacing them with a set of I/S bags because there's nothing like the OE Honda bags IMHO! After the Ultimate seat the OE bags are the best thing I've added to the Valk. Also added a set to my buddy's VTX. There is no OEM option for the X but my buddy absolutely loves his. Had to bolt these on too. I had no luck with the quick release set up there either.

That's the same price I paid for the set I have in the attic that I plan on mounting on the Rocket. The original bags for my Valk were $450 in 2001. The paint job cost $479, but the quality of the prep and painting to match the factory two tone and silver pinstripe was well worth the cost.

A friend of mine has them on her Shadow Aero and has actually lost a bag off her bike while riding. She didn't notice until she got home and was not able to find the missing bag. I took pieces of black duct tape and placed it over the bolt heads and haven't had a problem since then. I have also noticed that the bottom of the bags (where they mount to the bracket) tends to bend out over time. Personally, I wouldn't use them but that is a damn good deal. Take your precautions and you should be good to go. JMHO...

Throwing away the Dzus fastener set up & bolting them on will cure the accidental bag loss problem!

No, the yellow/ivory only came on the standards in model year 98 and 99. I've compared my yellow to the 98 in a side by side and for whatever reason my 99 has more gold tone than the 98 yellow...might have been a slightly different batch of paint at the factory. I've never found touch up paint that matched mine...always too yellow.

One of the four 'Zeus' quick release latches on mine has always self-released when riding on rough roads. I put a piece of tape inside the bag on it and it has never since been a problem. These bags will distort their shape depending on how much stuff you cram into them. If they are overloaded and bulging on the sides, you need to squeeze the sides in with both hands, while using your thumbs to press the lid down until you hear the latch 'click.' I have to do it that way everytime I put jackets (or heaven forbid, my g'friend's BIG purse) in the saddlebag.

That's the same thing I said. I do, however, enjoy being able to remove the bags in 10 seconds flat, for cleaning the wheels or just sporting around town without them.

Had em on my Vol and all was good. I was a little worried with how loose the release mechanism got so I put on a thicker rubber\foam pad on the mount bracket. Then I could really feel them lock on. I also got the duffel bags for them which saved taking them off and on over night trips. Sold the Vol and kept the bags for the Valk and got a set of brackets to fit the Valk off ebay.

i can see why they just stuck with the one basic model it looks good on so many different model bikes and they make lots of brackets to interchange with nobody on this thread has brought it up so far but i have heard complaints about the locks being a weak point on these bags

I had these originally on the bike. I also got a smokin' deal when I bought them. The zuess fasteners would let go occasionally, usually when pulling a coat or something out it would grab hold and turn them. I also just put a slab of tape over them, and stuck the handles to the inside. I also cut a piece of inner tube and glued it to the brackets between the bag and the bracket. This helped in 2 ways. It made the zuess fasteners tighter, and the bags didn't rattle. I liked the bags, good bang for the money. I never had any issues with locks.

I put a set on my 98' 1100 Aero in 98' and have had no problems with them and I do overload them when touring. As mentioned in a couple other posts the rubber washers between the bag and brackets has to be in place. I secured the washers to the brackets with Pliobond contact cement. No problem with the zuess as long as they are pushed in firmly and turned the 1/2 turn to lock the bags on the brackets. The hard bags are great to be able to pop off, throw on a hotel cart to the room and not have theft worries durning the night on the road. They are waterproof with a good sealing thick gasket/lid, the locks are ok. Not as big as my Valk tourer bags. Removable liner bags are also available for them.
