Mark your calendars and make your reservation for Aug. 29-30 in Jefferson, Texas.

Jefferson is known as America’s MOST haunted city. We’re headed out of Houston at sun-up for the 4.5 hour ride to Jefferson Saturday, Aug 29. Jefferson is a step back in time. Spend the afternoon strolling the historic streets; visit the old-time soda fountain (that’s where you’ll find Duct Tape knocking back chocolate malt or 3!), visit antique shops or enjoy an afternoon ride in East Texas.  The evening plan after dinner at Auntie Skinner's Riverboat Club, is the “Ghost-Walk”, a guided tour through 13 historical buildings that are known ghost hang-outs! Then to the “Ghost-train”. Please see below for more info on the city and the tour.

If you’d like to join us please call:

Inn of Jefferson
400 South Walcott (Hwy 59)
Jefferson, TX 75657
903-665-3983

King room is $59.95
Double room is $73.95

Includes breakfast
Hotel code: VRCC

History of Jefferson, TX link:

Sunday morning after breakfast we’ll take a ride out to Caddo Lake. The link is below. There are lots of good riding roads around the lake.  Then it’s back on the road headed home.

There are many B&B’s and a couple of historic hotels in Jefferson. If interested, the link is:  http://jeffersontx.com/

You bet!  Count me in.  Sounds like a fun weekend...wait a minute...of course I'm going to be there...by royal decree...just in case her highness needs valet parking.

The ride up from Houston will be a destination ride.  We'll hop on 59 North and go.  Coming out of Houston 59 is very freeway like, but around Livingston and on North it's really a nice scenic ride.  It will still be hot that time of year, so we want to start early.  We've got a friend in Kingwood scouting a good meet point on the north side and hope for KSU about 7:30 am.  We'll post estimated times to  be at various locations on the way for anyone wanting to join us enroute.  We'll make Jefferson in time for lunch and an afternoon of seeing the town.

The ride back on Sunday we'll likely plan a little longer and interesting ride.

Got room for a North Texas Valk?  Sounds like a fun trip from the Dallas area too.  Only about 160 miles from here but meandering the back roads could make it pretty interesting.

HA HA! I'm looking for an AC suit! I think I won't find one.... so we're leaving at the crack of dawn. I hope y'all are going!

We rode back to Carlos this morning. Not as hot. We left at 7:30 AM and got home about 30 minutes ago.

Sure! There's always room for another Valk! I'm hoping to meet a lot of the N. Texas group. We should arrive around lunch time from Houston.

The Jefferson Hotel and Lamache's restaurant used to be owned by a Valk rider. Might still be one or the other, or both? We had a Valk gathering there about a hundred years ago, March of 2005. Before that was '03...

How long has it been since you replaced your valve stems?

You peeps are giving me flashbacks.  When my wife and I moved from San Diego to Texas, Jefferson was the first place we lived.  It took about five months to go nearly insane with such a small town so we packed up and bought a house in Marshall.  We made it there just over three years before we had to bail to the big city.  I hope Jefferson is a better place to visit than to live in; we haven’t been back since we ran.

Maybe it is time to see Jefferson in a different light and go back for a visit.

That was Winterhawk cleaning the tread grooves in his back tire. Grin

Winterhawks seem to be extinct now - haven't had a sighting in years. Cry

What would the chances be of a repeat, Roy? As much as Lori enjoyed our previous antics, I would be surprised if she did not make Tom take her. Wouldn't want her to have to hear about it "second hand"! ~Jeff

I just made our reservations for Friday and Saturday night!   cooldude  Can not wait!  (If you're still undecided, they still have rooms available...)

We're thinking about a slightly post-rush hour departure, a rib lunch at the Country Tavern, and an arrival in time for an adult beverage.  Oh yeah, and a scenic back roads route with some of the Texas Forest Trail mixed in.

Lori?  Melanie?  Tom?  T-Roy?  Anyone else?
