OK so here goes:

1.) Ordered new "OE" from Rarelecticalparts.  Marked made in China sent it back. They claimed they sent me the wrong one but too late. Already bought from MARS.
2.) Bought and installed a rebuilt from MARS.  Went about 15 miles then died, battery dead. Noisy.
Got bike started and started running at 13-14V still noisy and remains in bike now.
3.) returned core to MARS. This ALT remains in bike.
4.) Ordered new Genuine Hitachi OE from EMS Global Direct. Planned to use MARS as a spare.
5.) EMS unit arrives in Hitachi box with label cut off and model # written by hand.  The Label on the alternator is removed and there are no markings whatsoever on it.
6.) Called EMS and they state that Hitachi and Mitsubishi mark their new units "REMAN" so they remove the labels so we won't think we got a rebuilt instead of new.  EMS states that Hit. and Mit.  marks them REMAN to save on export/import duities.

WHAT?!?!?!??  Somebody is lying or being unethical here.  I'm confused about installing the new EMS unit.  The guy at EMS says he absolutely guarantees that it is a new Hitachi unit.

I work for Hitachi M and will try to get to the bottom of this.

My money says they're alot more likely to lie to the consumer than US customs...  The penalties are severe and can be applied to individuals in the company, not just the corporation.

I dont understand why dont you just take your alternator down to you local alternator shop and have them do a rebuild it.
Bearing, brushes and clean up.. less than $100 and good for another 75k miles...

am i missing something?

That info may be correct as far as the labels, I have heard that before but cannot remember the technicalities as to why. If it looks good and all the parts are new I wouldn't worry as long as it works. The Mars units seem to have a bit of trouble sometimes I am kind of sorry I was looking to them if I ever had to replace mine.

Joe I heard there were clearance issues to the frame did you find this?

Spidy3--regarding a rebuilt from MARS.  I admit that the first unit I rec'd was way too noisy.  I switched it with a brand new OEM and the noise was gone.  MARS sent me another ( I paid the shipping fee both back and for the second unit to me!) MARS does offer a 1 year 100% warranty.  The second unit was also a little noisy (again I direct compared it to the borrowed new OEM ubit), however, the cost of again return shipping etc. caused me to rethink that.  2 years and 36K later, I'm still using the 2nd MARS unit, .  Yea, it's still a little noisier that I'd care for, but it is still puttin' out 14.1 volts.

As for the "over-sized" comment: Even the OEM unit seems over-sized--LOL!  There just ain't much room in there.  It seems to be a matter of taking your time getting the rear-end of the alternator to drop-in first, kind'a at an angle.

I had a MARS unit a couple of years ago. It is my custom not to comment on member suppliers on this board, but I will not buy another, and I will leave it at that.

I got mine at ems and it an Hitachi for sure no marks on the box etc..  They are the guys in west Virginia.  Very helpful I personally talked with them  They walked me through the clocking procedure.  Had mine quite awhile and have had no problems.  They have an e bay site check out the feedback on them.

EMS/Hitachi in and silent.
MARS will be a spare.  I may take it apart to see if there is slop in the bushings........don't know why else it would make noise.
Not gonna spend any more on shipping back abnd forth.
Post over.

Although there have been from time to time comments on noisy alternators I think that is not the normal.

Same for MARS alternators.

I got one and have no complaint whatsoever.

I feel since this is a forum, most all we ever read posted are dissatisfied related comments.

Don't ever read much about satisfied outcomes, of course and naturally, that is what we all come to expect.

Yeah, but how loud is it? I know about a lot of loud whiny
ones, and no quiet ones.

No....Its the same alternator its just bolted together at different locations....That's why you must " clock " it ....My friend Lucky 13 installed mine and just like that u-joint boot its a bitch to install a alternator in a Valkyrie.
