Hey all,
my wife is hoping that you all might be able to help me.  bought a 98 tourer about a month ago and after a couple of rides my wife finally told me that she feels weird sitting in back because she has nothing to hold on to.  I was confused because I have the chrome grab handles, until i saw her sitting on the bike.  she is too short to be able to reach the handles without crunching down on the seat.  do any of you know of any taller hand holds for her?  I want something that will fit with the look of the bike, but come up a couple of inches higher so she can actually use them.
we both thank you for any advice.

Check out the armrests on my bike.  They are from Ultimate Seats.  They mount on the back of a standard backrest and flip up for passinger to get on and off.  After they are mounted you can remove the armrests by just pulling out one pin.  We love em cooldude

she could hold onto you?
Isn't that why we ride motorcycles to feel our loved ones up against us?

Big IV,
i wish you would talk to her.  that was my first suggestion, and she used to, but now all she does is grab a handful of my jacket, which isn't the same thing.

She's doing more kneed grabs while she reclines back against the back rest. So mine's not perfect either.
When I holler, "Hold on," she still usually does because she knows I'm not happy about what is about to potentially happen, but am working to keep everything where it belongs.

Maybe my wife could benefit from grab rails too.

I'm not a fan of arm rests (personal choice).  Do arm rests come in tan and burgandy? Maybe I'd like it better if they matched.

I wish I knew about these rails 6 months ago...I paid $100.00 ++ for a set from Revco (sp--the air horn folks ) and only needed the right side.... Cry

those handles seem like a decent option to the rivco grab rails, but they sit at about the same height, which is the problem for her.
thanks for the advice though

I have the Rivco rails and the top is about even with the top of the saddlebag lid. The ones from Big Bike Things appear to be at least 2" higher.

I think John is correct.  I just got home and looked at my Rivco's and the ones from Big Bike Things look like they are quite a bit higher.  Regardless, I just ordered a pair for one of my other Valks...so I will know for sure soon enough!

I had a pair of the BigBike type, although I bought them from the guy in New Zealand,, Barry Fick I believe.  They fit up higher than the Rivco grabrails.  When I changed seats to the Ultimate, the pillion is wider than stock and Corbin, so they would fit right up against and under the top of the pillion, making grabbing them almost impossible.   I opted for the armrests now, and she likes them.   She feels safer (her perception I think), since she's not going to go flying off the sides of the seat.    crazy2
