I have been behind guys on Wings and other bikes that wont lean or power through a curve too.  Some enjoy different aspects of motorcycling and who am I to say which riding style is ok and which is not.  There are many riders of all kinds of bikes that dont like twisties, they dont like leaning and they really dont have any interest in going any faster on a curve than is absolutely necessary to keep the bike upright.  Thats fine for them and Im fine with it as long as I am not stuck behind them too long....

Guys that that, should not be riding at Deals Gap.  It's like being gay, and going to a strip club.  Or... not being gay, an going to a Chip&Dales show.  Or... being a vegetarian, and going to a Brazilian BBQ.  You get the point.

Soon I'll have two valks.
How many harley owners have two of them?
It say's a lot about the valkyrie.
 uglystupid2 coolsmiley

It's very common for some HD owners to have two or multiple of them. There's a lot of different HDs to chose from and they have many different personalities.

But to that point, I don't know any Goldwing dudes that own two of them.

My Black 01 standard has attracted a lot of attention at stoplights from Harleys et. al.  Never once gotten anything but a respectful nod, but this only after a close long look at the Valk.  I think what makes the difference for me is the Cobra exhaust with no baffles cut off at the middle of the rear wheel.  The Harley guys can HEAR that six ticking over at idle.  Sounds like a dragster.

Also never gotten anything but respect stopped.  Usually the Harley guys do a slow approach, circleing slowly.  They are always fascinated by the motor.  Once the first question is asked and answered they always have been respectful and impressed.  Then I dig into my pocket and pull out a nickel.  Always astonished at the result.  Between the HUGE roar when I rev her up and that nickel standing on edge and doing a slow pirouette on the valve cover Ive even gotten applause from large mixed groups when Im showing the bike.

At our Club rides I regularly ask experienced Harley riders if they would like to take the Valk out for a spin.  Every one has come back and said things like "Thats insane!!".  One of them went a bought a Valk.

We smoked alot over the past week. We were riding in the Hills and was behind 3 HD's and a chopper was leading them. That thing was sssllloooowwwww! Taking 30 mph curves at 15 mph. We would stop, give them a lead and still catch up. At one point we stopped on the hill and turned off the engine and coasted for a few miles down.

what a great thread

I have riden cherahola, the gap the snake and all at the posted speed limit. The pig trail at +20 but that was before my crash and following TAZ, also with Taz the road from Grand Junction at +40 but I didnt enjoy it

For sure I am one of those who aint so comfortable on roads that (a) I am on for the first time and (b) have limited sight lines

But when I see someone come up behind me I move to the right and wave them past with my left hand, then I try to use them so I can see which way the next turn is going.  In city driving if you dont check your six your life expectancy aint so good.

EVen at the speed limit it is often frustrating when you are behind someone who has no courtesy, and is equally frustrating when someone going the other way drifts into my lane either in a truck or a car or a bike.

Pretty much for me I dont pass over a double yellow, seen to many scraped off the road around here between NYC and the goat trail.

You fast riders enjoy yourselves, I will get there just a few minutes later but with the same sheet eating grin as the rest cooldude

and yes  I have occasionally smoked the bacon off of my friends harleys, but they always deserved it

The final FACT is that a stock Valk will smoke the bacon on any stock Harley and that what this thread is all about.    Period.................. End of story.

V-Rods are a tussle.  A fat guy on a Valk will get edged by a skinny guy on a V-Rod.  (or a girl... as happened to me.)  But we were pals... so no bad blood.

The V-Rods are pretty fast, even if they are as ugly as a mud fence IMO.

I pulled up the other night next to a little guy on a Anniversary Edition V-rod that was just a gorgeous bike. I lifted up my visor and said "NICE BIKE!" he asked me what the hell I was riding and the light turned green. He romped on the throttle and I did the same.. we were neck and neck till I decided to avoid the ticket and stay near the speed limit.
I really like the V-Rods. I'd buy one of I had 20 grand to spend on toys.

Whenever one of my "HD buddies" ask me when I'm gonna grow up and get a V-Twin, I say "I've already got one, in my lawnmower. "

Grin  All in good fun. I think HD's are fine motorcycles.

Sorry mate but a V-Rod will leave a Valkyrie behind if the riders capabilities are equal.

But in the twisties a V-rod rider protecting his chrome will be left for dust  cooldude

Oh, forgot to mention.  It wont smoke the bacon on a certain Porsche designed water cooled HD that is considered to be a bastard by HD riders.  Just thought I would mention that to be fair.

Here is the rest of original quote Paul.  I thought that I mentioned the Vrod.

I didn't smoke any pork this weekend although we put down some great fried porkchops my mother in law whipped up for us.

Oh, on the way to Tampa this weekend and around town, we passed by several HD dealers. Lots of pork sitting out in the lots sizziling in the hot August sun. I remember HD dealers trying to make potential buyers feel honored to have to wait for their ride because of the great demand for such a great bike. And our local dealer was known to add on several thousand dollars over MSRP and as the drool fell to the floor the poor wannabies forking over the dough for some over priced almost American made nostalgia. Well, guess times are hard for HD. I talking maybe 100 bikes at one lot and as many at another.

Oh well, when I was looking for a bigger bike, I'm sure glad as heck that my local dealer didn't make me a great offer, which wasn't gonna happen, and me make the mistake of my life. Glad I had the patience and fortitude to think through all the options and not get hooked on the gotta have a Harley syndrome that has struck so many.
