The VTX is a load of nothing but boring.

G-man - I think it depends on what you do with it. Smiley

A stock Valk isn't all that - but it has lots of potential.  Cheesy

Just like the VTX. Wink

In my opinion, it is as good as a V-twin can be. That 1800 - when you twist the throttle, you better hold on!  Roll Eyes  Cool

Agreed on it is whatyou do with it.  But, It costs a nice chunk of change to wind up with what you have.  Now, the stock Valkyrie I'd have to disagree on.  A black, stock Valkyrie is gorgeous.

MAD6Gun, why didn't you start your own show to enter?  That way, you could put your Valk in whichever category that you wanted to compete in.  Why did you choose to enter a show at a Harley dealership?  If you hate Harleys so much, I just curious to know why you were't at the honda dealership where you could be appreciated.  If I'm riding my valk, I stay away from the H-D shop.  When I ride my harley, I stay away from the Honda shop.

Why are there so many sensitive guys on this board?

Say what???
A. HD dealerships are the biggest around and have more bike type activities then the honda ones. I can't tell you the last time I was at a Honda event. Hell even the Honda Homecoming is closed down ain't it?
B. The one he won at, I assume, owns a HD and Honda/Kawa shop. They sit side by side each other.

And why are you scared to take your bike to the diff shops?  Undecided

McRider, if, as you say, you stay away from the Honda shop when you're riding your HD, then why do you ride onto the Valkyrie board while you're riding your Harley??  I think that you're not being consistent except that you want to stir the pot.

For your info, Mad6Gun hasn't won many awards at a Harley shop but he has won the Best of Show and Best in Class at the Honda Homecoming .  He just likes to enter events.  If someone bashes his ride, he will return the favor.

Hate Harley's??  MC where in the hell did you get the Idea that I hate Harley's. I don't hate the bikes, I HATE the freeking attitudes of some the arsholes that ride them. If you want to ride a Harley more power to ya. I have ridden a couple of them. I don't care for them mostly because of the vibration. But if that's your cup of tea go for it.

Oh and by the way. I went to a show at Baileys HD in Ft Wayne a few years ago because my buddy Bob (the guy that painted my bike) worked there. I won the "other" class. I didn't know that was the class name until I got there and you know what, I have not gone back to that show since.

I would NEVER go up to some guy at a show weather it was a Harley or some other kind of bike and say its a "piece of crap" and you need to "buy a real bike". It's called respect. But I have had that said to me. If I see a Harley that I think looks good I will compliment the owner on it.

This is the last time I am going to defend myself. If you think I am "bashing" Harley's because I beat one in a race and bragged about, then you know what. I DON"T CARE.......

Just for the record...I didn't say he started the thread, just that the thread would have

one next week or the week after that. I enjoy reading them and post one myself sometimes.
I've cut WAY down on my harley-bashing, but if someone asks...no, BEGS for it I'm happy to

much more prevalent with them. Smiley

My son and I have so much fun with romping up on the local harley's that he has named our bike the "Hogg Roaster"!!

It wouldn't be as much fun.........if they didn't have "that attitude" toward non hd riders.

BTW.......we stop to help ANY biker thats at the side of the road.

I have a real good friend that has a HD (dont know what kind) a sportster I think.  I would ride with him anytime, except his bike has never been running when we could go riding.  Its not a new bike but it has way less miles than most of our Valks and it never runs......but Im sure not ALL harleys are like that.....I hear 90% of all HD's ever made are still on the road.......the other 10% actually made it home.  He he he he

Come on you few that are taking this so seriously!!!!!!!!!!!  Its the way of the world.....Harley riders that actually like you and ride with you will bash your bike (if its not a HD) when they are with their own.....just like we do..........HD's and "Rice Burners" bash sportbikes........its just in jest MOST of the time.

Also there are way more (IMHO) Harley riders that bash NOT in fun than Valk riders that Bash HD NOT in fun........this thread obviously was started in good nature.

HD jokes are fun.........seeing them get small quickly in the rear view mirror is more fun.......nothing is going to change that.......its all in fun.

I just don't understand all this Harley bashing, and wish the two camps would just get along. I attribute this attitude to a lack of education. so in the the spirit of unnity and goodwill I offer the following infomation...

Id like to offer a redefinition of "getting along" this isint kindergarten, were talking about bikers here.......theres gonna be pride, attitude, turf, power and speed issues and someone is always going to be better at each of these than someone else.

I say if a Harley rider calls a Valkyrie a rice burner or Jap crap among his friends or a Valkyrie rider on this board calls a HD old slow technology (neither are totally fair) but on a poker run walks up to each others bikes and says "nice machine" like happens ALL THE TIME and you can ride together and live peacabley together without anyone having to die.......then, that is getting along

I’ve got a great book I found in my Dad’s house after we lost him in October last year at 96 years young. (I brought the Harley to my house when he was 92 after finding out he was standing up on a paint can and jumping off onto the crank to start it.  Shocked  He came to visit us frequently so I could start it and he could ride until a broken hip in a fall in his house ended his riding days at 94.)
Anyway, back to the book: It tracks the development and animosity between the two camps and companies.  I remember my Dad talking about some of the troubles he saw between the two groups.  He rode both Indians and Harleys (whatever he could afford that would make it home).  Dad was a member of the Mid-South Motorcycle Club that had both Harley and Indian members.
Bottom line is, this situation pre dates us and our Valks by a LONG way.  There has always been, and will always be, an “other” machine, and there will always be an “other” group that wants to make something out of it.
I can still hear Pop’s slow southern drawl when I imagine his response to all this, “Yeah, just let ‘em go on away.”

I didn't understand Fudgie's post about the shirt.  Does he mean he wears an H-D shirt when riding his valk?  I do, too.  Honda shops have no shirts.  All the parts guys just know and care about sport bikes and motocross bikes.  And it seems like EVERY time that I need a part for the valk, they have to order it.  Honda parts ain't cheap, either.  Believe it or not, Harley parts cost less money.

I bought a tank top at Battlefield Harley on Sat. PIBIT also bought the same shirt later the same day. Found it funny after out of 40 different shirts shirts we both got the same one!  2funny
Hate to say this, but I agree with you. Yes, I musta have 10 HD shirts and 2 Valk shirts. Your correct, Honda does not make good shirts. Not sure about the parts price. I have a $80 sporster horn kit and $100 windshield pouches. Pricey, yes, but pouches are high quality. They actually fit the contour of the oem shield.

I agree, all these Valkyrie light bulbs, air filters and oil filters my Valks need replaced so often are about to break my bank account. I should have went with the $25,000 Hog instead of the $12,000 Interstate.

Got on the interstate yesterday in the work van with the boss. A Electra glide passed us. A few miles down the road a bike was pulled over to the side. As we got closer we noticed he dumped it over the right side and he was trying to right it. Looks like when he stopped on the edge of the road, the grass was deeper then he thought and over he went! Been there before!  Embarrassed We tried to stop and help him but was commited in our lane. Thought I'd share and keep this thread going....  Evil

This has been a great thread, Ive had quite a laugh.
I know a lot of comments were made tongue in cheek, but some were quite miffed.

In the long run all us bikers should stick together and only put crap on the tin lids, those poor souls who have never experienced the shear pleasure of wind in the helmet, bugs in the teeth and cold and being wet in the rain.

I have dragged all manner of vehicles from Sports cars through to the high end luxury vehicles, never even a contest, but they still keep coming.
My favorite is to take off keeping alonside them until they think they have you beat, then they have to change gear and I give it a fistful, so long sucker.
At the next set of lights they hang out and say "quick bike" I say "Yea and cost about 1 tenth of the cost of your sports car" Ha Ha

There's a great thread going on in the Touring section of hdforums.com

18 pages of comparing GL1800s to HD Touring bikes and no bashing going on, and no one claiming the HD is faster, smoother or anything. Just that they like theirs better, and what could be wrong with that? Makes the world go round I think.

It's not Harleys.

It's the stupid prats on top.

Prats can be found on all makes and types.

They were out in force yesterday wobbling over the Cherohala Skyway. All manner of bikes and sizes.

Why can't they just  slide over and let you by? I'm not there for a race or to prove myself better. I just wish to proceed at a faster speed than they are crawling along at. If they are running the speed limit I'm happy to tuck in behind and chug along.

I believe it's a complete lack of use of mirrors combined with a death grip on the handlebars plus an inabiltity to ride safely. So they go ride in a group and are then "forced" to ride in a style they are uncomfortable with.

These factors combined with a F everyone else attitude.

There was a dickhead riding south of Deals Gap yesterday with an older Goldiwng towing a trailer. Not only did he have to slow down for easy curves, he couldn't even go around them in a smooth line. That combined with the air conditioning unit on top of trailer completley obscuring all his rear lights made him a rolling traffic hazrd. He's the guy deserving of a ticket not some poor schmuck busting the speed limit by 10 mph.

OK back to Harleys.

On the the Cherohala yesterday there was a fat prat on his fat prat bike running at about 35mph. He adopts the ultra cool pose of riding a la squid. Left hand flamboyantly placed palm down on his left thigh with left elbow sticking into the breeze ( not much of one at 35mph). This signifies that he's ultra cool and completely in command of his noisy P.O.S.

Nearly blew the plot by running into the guard rail of a bridge. Then he has to run next to another fat prat on a fat prat bike like a pair of gay C.H.I.P officers. Nearly ran into his fat prat buddy. He's the guy deserving of a ticket not some poor schmuck busting the speed limit by 10 mph.

Fat prat # 1 was also hanging back, slowing down to 25 mph and then zooming around the bends, well zooming at maybe 40mph. Problem was the dickhead was running onto the yellow lines each time cause he was skeered of leaning his fat prat bike. He's the guy deserving of a ticket not some poor schmuck busting the speed limit by 10 mph.

I need a Go-Pro camera to capture some of this stupidity.

Cry i always wonder why the hd i see on the roads are barely doing the speed limit. the riders seem to turn their heads ,refusing to aknowledge the valk, 2-up, passing them with grace, speed and ease! now i know! they are envious, jealous and pissed-off!! if that darn noise and vibration would stop ! so they slow down to minimise the inconveniance. does hd sell ear plugs, padded gloves and gel linned under pants? 2funny 2funny

You nailed it Paul, It's not the bike it the rider. Last week on the Dragon I came upon a group of 10 or so bikes just stopped in the road. It seems one of there group had dropped his bike in a turn...Yes dropped it. You could see by the marks in the asphalt there was no sliding action just a tip over.???? Any way I was waved by and started to go by them all except for one who just had to take off before I got to him. He proceeded to not be able to even go the speed limit and would slow to 15 mph in every turn. Yes I did look at my speedo to see. Not only that but at this blistering pace he managed to blow every left hand turn by riding either over the yellow line or just beside it....Unbelievable. I could have blown by him at any time but I didn't know where the Popo's were. As soon as I did know where they were I did pass him it which time he seemed to take great offense to by telling me I was number one.....I don't get it. I could care less what you are riding if you come up behind me it simply means you are going faster than I and I'll wave you by... I went to the overlook and made my turn around to meet him over a mile later with my visor up a smile on my face and a friendly wave to him. He did not return said wave.
Also on the return trip to the store  a VTX decided he needed to met me in a turn on the wrong side....I gave him a horn blast and yelled at him. I hope he crap his self!!

Yes Detn8er....been there done dat....we encountered a group of Harleys on deals gap the last time we were there.  Absolutely no exaggeration.....15 was the fastest curve they did and no matter the speed it was all brakes prior to any curve.

Now, at the time I was torqued at them and was thinking some thoughts I will not mention, but they did pull off and let the cars that were right behind them and us that were behind the cars go by, so at least they were considerate.

Since then I have been behind guys on Harleys that ride reasonably but enough that ride slow and heavy on the brakes like the Deals Gap ones for me to realize it is just that way.  And I have been behind guys on Wings and other bikes that wont lean or power through a curve too.  Some enjoy different aspects of motorcycling and who am I to say which riding style is ok and which is not.  There are many riders of all kinds of bikes that dont like twisties, they dont like leaning and they really dont have any interest in going any faster on a curve than is absolutely necessary to keep the bike upright.  Thats fine for them and Im fine with it as long as I am not stuck behind them too long....

If you have it, and you know it, you don't have to flaunt it.

So, Britman says it's the riders, not the bikes.  But, others say the valk is faster, which it is.  They go on to rant about the noise and lack of power and so on, but then Detn8er says it's the riders.  Did anyone see the link on H-D forums that was referenced?  There is little bashing and mostly respect for the GW.  It's not like the mob mentality that is found on this board.  It must be the area of the country that is causing this high school locker room boasting.

when I have waved to them have been Harley Posers.  Yea, I wave at all the bikers I meet.  I've been on a bike since 66.  I ride at least 20,000 miles a year, more than most, less than some.  I have a friend that rides a 03 Ultra Classic, he is a true rider, and he can't stand the majority of the dips that on Harleys these days

I say there laddie who are you calling gay?

I take offense to that comment, right along with 7,000+ current or retired CHiP's.

In 32 years I only saw 1 gay CHiP, and you'd only know it when he was not on duty.  It never stopped him from being a great LEO, I had him for a partner for a 9 month evaluation, that he passed, who would make every effort to safe your butt if needed, so hold off on the name calling as we don't like being referred to as gay, even though California is known for fags, and illegal immigrants.

Case closed..............

A Marine is always a Marine,
A CHiP is also always a  CHiP.

RJ I was thinking of the 2 actors from the TV series.

You mean Ponch & John?

When you saw them riding side by side, their bikes were on a trailer, no front wheel and the forks were anchored in a wheel chock, they were not going anywhere except where the trailer went.

When you saw the bike being ridden, it was myself and about 20 other officers on the bike(s).  We'd stop, they would quit shooting film to let those guys get on the bike.

John could ride a motor, Ponch only rode once during the run of CHiPS.  He lasted about 60 feet before he tried to go through a fence, stopped the show production almost 3 weeks while his face and arm healed up.

The producer never let him on a running bike again.

Was sure glad to get off that detail........

John was an OK guy, but Ponch was just like all the firkin illegals, gimme gimme gimme.  He even had to have his own personal bus for resting up between shooting scenes.   John hung out with us on breaks........

I'm stuck at home today, on call for work. I have been enjoying this thread since it started. Read the link on the HD Forums.  Lots of nice comments about Goldwings and not too much bashing. Read the last comment on page 10.  Will make most on this board happy.

I loved my Interstate but now I love my Harley.

Like many have said, you get attitudes from all riders.

I know that it's no contest when it comes to horsepower or speed with Valkyries vs Harley but I honestly don't care.  My Harley is more comfortable to ride. Found that out when I still owned both.

Wish the different brand riders could all get along but I know that will never happen.  As long as you enjoy your personal bike preference, that's all that matters to me.

Ride Safe,

On Sunday.  My buddy (a HD owner/not too much of a rider), called and asked if I'd like to join he and a few others for a Sunday afternoon ride.  I finished a few chores, ran a rag of 'Joe's Juice' over the windshield, and headed to his place.

There were 5 other bikes, all HD's, all the kind with the bat wing, bags, and trunk.  Dan (my buddy) and his wife, were the only bike '2 up'.  I took the rear, as I've never ridden with these guys before, and just settled in and enjoyed the sights.

We headed south, and took some back roads I've never been on before.  Went through 'Lake Geneva', a nice small town, but crazy with tourists, hit a few other small towns, and stopped for an ice cream cone.  That's when the questions started about the Valk.  How big is that engine?  How fast have ya had her?  Bet that thing is smooth?  They were obviously interested, and very impressed, by both the Valk, and by the miles on her (the oldest HD was a '99, and it had just over 25K on it)...

Pete, the leader of the ride, took me places in my own state that I didn't know existed.  Our pace was slow and comfortable, kind of like the pace of the CBR...  Gave us the chance to smell the roses, as it were.

We did just shy of 150 miles, stopped a few times for kickin' tires and a smoke, and had a very nice group dinner.

I must say, it was one of the nicest afternoon rides I've had in quite a while...  7 bikes, 8 folks laughin', ridin', and havin' a good time.  Not a 'tude' to be found.

Excellent, thanks for the ride report. I've had similar experiences.

I will say many of my Harley friends don't quite know how to do a 300+ mile day. Some do, but not most. They make fun of me when I say "down the road a piece" as they have realized that might be two states away. But,hey, it's New England, they're small states.

Live and Let Live, I say.
