Hi All -

Just bought my first Valkyrie ('97 standard) last week, moving up from a fun but not entirely comfortable Piaggio mp3 500. It's quite an upgrade!

But a question - the bike has white lenses on the rear brake light and turn signals. Over and above being dim, I'm thinking those aren't legal for Florida. True/False? Replacement suggestions? Cost?

Thanks for the help!

And here's the obligatory pic:

Hi Earl and welcome to the madness?
Finish filling out your profile so we can see where you are from and all that!
You just missed a great get together this last Saturday but I can safely say that we all look forward to meeting you and ogling that hot lookin Phat Gurl you are riding!
Someone else will be along shortly that can probably help out with your question.

I'm assuming the lenses are clear ones, if so they should have red bulbs or LED's in them. That's what I have on the back of mine, both the turns and taillight are clear lens with red super bright LED's. They're always red when the bike is running, sounds like the prior owner doesn't have it set up right if they're dim.

Welcome Earl -- you must be doing things backwards as Most of us will start on two wheels and end up on a 3 wheeler before we would give it up. LOL  Just remember to put your feet down when you come to a stop. Seen there's is a BBQ ride on Sat posted to the north of us. If I get my carbs clean I'm going. cooldude

Heh, Dave - found my weakness already. Never had to put my feet down with the mp3 - or shift, for that matter. But I'm picking it up quickly.

Saw the lunch get-together on Saturday; thinking it'd be nice to get the bike out of the city.  cooldude

Hi Earl,

Welcome to the best motorcycle club on the Internet and the best motorcycle ever made.

These good folks have good answers to your question, let us know what you end up doing-if you decide to make a change and always post pictures.

Hi Greg - so far I haven't seen anything here that makes me think your impression of the motorcycle or the local riders is wrong.

But I'm confused; what change are you referring to?

I believe he is referring to any changes you make to the lenses you spoke of.

If you decide to change the bulbs or lenses to something different to make them brighter or change their color...always good to hear what others are doing to their Valk and any issues they encounter.

Ah, now I get it.  Grin

Frankly, they don't seem that dim to ME, and as long as the clear lenses are legal, I'm good. I'm sure I'll eventually change to LEDs - and then there will be pics!

Welcome Earl,

I'll agree with everyone else in that I like the paint job on your Phat Gurl!  cooldude

I am planning to ride to Leesburg for this Saturday as posted for the Brunch, then on to the Chrome Shop in Wildwood. Hope to see you there. I have a Black & Chrome Interstate. They are the fast ones btw! coolsmiley

Mine is dusty and chrome, think it's still black underneath. Does that mean it's still fast?  Grin  I was thinking about washing it today, then it struck me....it will just get dusty again Saturday. So, today was a slow day. Heck, every day in my life is a slow day since I retired, that's why I retired.  cooldude

Hi Valkahuna,

Guess I misheard, I thought someone said the Interstate was last one, not the fast one. I'm sure it was my hearing... 2funny

See you all there for breakfast!

No Earl, you heard right! The 2001 Interstate was the Last one they made. That's why they are so highly sought after. (Yea, I know that's not the type of "last" you meant. I'm not toopid ya know!) crazy2

But seriously, any Valk model is a good one. Just depends on what you want.  Smiley

Yes, and you're correct, the red/black is fastest.
