This should be a fun ride through the best country Western Colorado has to offer.  All are welcome, but being a holiday weekend lodging could get iffy.  I have "held" some rooms in the name of the VRCC for about a week, and they may be able come up with a few more vacancies.

Saturday, May 25 we are planning on meeting up in the Gunnison area and heading over the Blue Mesa Dam and into Crawford via CO-92 (north rim of Black Canyon), then on through Hotchkiss, Paonia and Delta lodging in Montrose.

Sunday is the longer ride, heading through Ouray, the "Switzerland of the Rockies" and over the Million Dollar Highway by the historic mining town of Silverton, over Red Mountain Pass to Durango, into Pagosa Springs and lodging in the beautiful rustic Creede (8,799 ft.).

Coincidence, I just had an e-mail today listing the Million Dollar Highway as one of the top 5 bike rides in the country.  Here's the link.

Lodging information:

The Country Lodge in Montrose 970-249-4567, we have some rooms held for the VRCC, some are booked I think.  There are three rooms near each other, and they are 16, 17 and 18.  Room 18 faces the back, and room 16 and 17 are on the side.  All have a sliding glass door to the pool area, off street with parking in front of the rooms.  He would rent these for $65 per night, sounds like he's giving us a little deal.  They also have a cabin with three separate bedrooms with one queen bed each, but only one bath.  He would rent that for $125.  He can only hold the rooms until April 10th.

in case of overflow, the Black Canyon Inn across the street also looks decent.  (970) 249-3495

The Snowshoe Lodge in Creede has four rooms side by side they will hold for the VRCC, and I told him people will ask for the VRCC rooms.  The number is 719-658-2315.  He didn't specify a cutoff date, but he'll call me if he doesn't fill all four rooms.   They have a 7-day cancellation policy.  As of now they have more rooms available if more people want to come along.  The room came to $81 plus tax, and includes a "full homemade breakfast".  Yum.

Got my rooms, looking for some room mates for the first night in Montrose. The last room they had was the three room cabin for $125.

Just waiting now to get my time off request approved.

Dang!  Can't make it because I'm working my shifts at Delta County Memorial Hospital for the holiday weekend.  That being said, I encourage all of you to ride Black Mesa like your lives depended on it because there are no second chances up there and you are a looong way from help.

We always lose one or two a year on 92 and 133.
Ride safe, ride for joy.

Thanks for the encouragement, Willopad357!   ;)  I'd like to meet you but not by way of the emergency room!  I'll be riding two up, and won't be out to set any speed records or impress anyone with my amazing riding prowess   8)

Bump....... :cooldude:
Raymond I got the conformation from your wife yesterday as she was leaving my house. You're in buddy. Louise said that she had to work and that you are free to go. So are you taking one of Dave's rooms?  :cooldude:

Looks like Raymond is a go, I still have one more room available, for Saturday night in Montrose, in the 3 room cabin.  Contact me if you are interested in splitting the room cost ($125)

Looking forward to a fun weekend  :D
