Hello All,
Maybe someone here can help me out?
Went to ride the Valk to work last night and get a few blocks away then the lights get real dim the dashboard lights go out then on, I turn around real fast and head back home. Leave the Valk and take the car. Get home from work this morning and the Valk did not turn over so I throw on the battery tender. After about 6 hours on the tender I try to start the Valk and she did start.

I shut her off and get the volt meter out and take a reading from the battery while the engine is off. 12.13 while not running. (The battery is not fully charged only six hours on the tender) Start the engine and slowly bring the rpms up to 5000 and the volt meter is reading 11.65.

Two months ago I bought a new battery and changed it out with the battery I had in the Valk. It was five or six years old. So when it died I thought it was time for a new battery.

Does this sound like the Alternator?

Thanks for any help with this,

Short answer yes.  There is a 55A charge fuse to the right of the bank of small fuses that could be blown or a screw could be loose.  There are two on top and two on bottom if memory serves me correctly.  The fuse is a flat fuse held in by two screws.  It is there to protect the battery/electrical system from a possible overcharge from the alternator or a short in the battery from  damaging the alternator.  If the voltage did not increase to around 13 V when you increased the rpm above 2000 or so, the alternator is probably defective.  You can get one made for a Gold Wing that will work after you clock or change the front cover 120 degree's.  It will save you about $100 over the Valkyrie alternator and has the same output.  Here is the part #

Part # is 31100-MT2-015
" ...
When you remove yours and compare it to the Gold Wing unit, you will easily see what is necessary.  Take out 3 screws that hold the 3 parts of the alternator together and spin the front cover to match your old one and put the screws back in.  They go all the way through the 3 sections.

Warning:       DO NOT take this cap off, just turn it holding it against the body of the alternator.    After you pull the long bolts holding the 2 pieces together.
