A strange thing happened with my Valk this winter. I live in Wisconsin, and my bike is stored on a bike lift in my attached garage for 6 months out of every year. Over this past winter I lost the dot 4 fluid out of the clutch reservoir. It appears to have leaked out around the cap at the back of the motor that the clutch line is attached to. It's an awkward spot, but I checked the bolts and they're tight. I bled the line out with new fluid, and my clutch lever came back to normal, but I don't understand how this could happen. There are no further drips or leakage that I've seen since, which really makes me wonder. I'm wondering if anyone has had this happen, or could help me figure this one out?

I'm not sure where it leaked from your description. Did it leak from the slave cylinder or from the bleeder pipe?
There's not too much to leak from, the slave cylinder seal (CUP, SLAVE CYLINDER 22865-MJ8-003), o-ring at bleeder valve (O-RING 91355-MG9-006) and the banjo bolts/washers into the slave cylinder.
I'm in Winnipeg and have had to rebuild the master cylinder due to leakage over the winter. I figure the seals contract a little when it gets to -40 and it leaks. There is a seal in the slave cylinder and an o-ring in the bleeder. Perhaps one or both of them are on their last legs.
That's about all I can help with on this one.

In a cold unheated storage, things seem to shrink, and in the summer they tend to expand.
Since you got it working, I wouldn't worry my little Pea brain over it. That is my pea brain, I'm referring to. We have had that happen to some of winter stored vehicle we have among ourselves at the shop. We went to get the son's better half's Hyundai out and it had no clutch. Moved the car a little bit, found the Brake fluid spot on the floor. Refilled the reservoir, pumped it a couple of time and drove it back to the shop. No leaks since April 1st, Now the Mustang, that was a different story, it had a huge leak at the rear extension housing. Today, when we had some slack time, we dropped the drive shaft, pulled the seal, put in a new one and drove it around the block and parked it again. Only this time we parked in the spot back wards. It is leaks, it will be about 5" to the rear of the parking spot. So there is a lot of shrinkage due to cold and a lot of swelling in the head.

Kinda my question too. Where did it leak from ? The bleeder screw or the cylinder ? Could the bleeder have been a bit loose ? But, regardless, if you added fluid and everything is Ok, then run it. Just keep an eye on it. If it continues to leak and its the cylinder, I'd recommend ordering a kit for it and just fix it when it comes.

Thank you gentlemen, for your advice. To answer questions posted: It appears to be leaking from somewhere around the slave cylinder housing, although the bolts are tight. I have a permanent mount lift brace installed, which makes it difficult to see and check. I've put over 100 miles on so far, and the leak seems to have stopped.

I've had a similar intermittent clutch fluid leakage and loss of fluid from the clutch master cylinder. Some floor spotting; and I wipe everything down but can find no source of the leak. It is maddening! Any advice on how to look where to look would be appreciated.

a friends 86 wing did the same. it has now been 3 months with no other leakage once we bled it and refilled.

Another mysterious loss of fluid in Wisconsin here... ??? Just like JB, my '97 Valk was put up for the winter around Thanksgiving, and on the first outing of the spring, I noticed a very light clutch pull. When I checked, the reservoir was almost empty (never has happened in 16 years). Nothing on the floor... Filled it back up, and made sure it had not sucked in any air, and all is good...  Gonna give her a good cleaning, and will check everywhere I can to see if I can spot the source of the leak. Black Dog
