My 98 tourer hot light has been fluttering for years now. Someday I'll pull the tank and replace the sensor.

Replace the switch and see if the light behaves itself.

My 98 standard has been doing the same thing.  I installed gauges and have continued to ignore the light for years now.  There is an upgrade/repair in shop talk that I fully intend to do one of these days.  Roll Eyes

It is not your temp sensor that is bad. It is your indicator unit. Part #38710-MZO-003  $45.24 through HDL. It is located behind the left side cover. Pull the cover and remove the coolant overflow bottle. It will be located right behind the bottle towards the front of the bike. Remove the two wire connectors and plug in the new. Takes less than 5 minutes.

Chased that damn problem for a couple of months, found it and replaced the unit.

The 99's and earlier used a thermosensor and an ECT indicator unit that Misfit was talking about. 2000 and later used a thermostatic switch. I changed my sensor out to a switch years ago and changed some wiring. There is a write up on it somewhere but I forget.

When does the temp lite turn on?  Does the cooling fan ever turn on ? If it doesn't, You can ground the radiator temp switch and see if the fan turns on, if it does, either of the 2 mentioned switches could be faulty. If the fan does come on but the lite also comes on then its probably the switch behind/cover the cover near the overflow bottle.
