I wanted to add this question to this thread, since it's all realated, rather than start another.
How about for those medications that require refridgeration (insulin?)?
I was thinking of a very small cooler pack, but no freezers to refreeze. Then mulitple zip lock bags. Put the medication in one bag to keep it dry, then that bag into another filled with ice gotten at the motel/restaurant/etc.
Going for 4 nights, and my wife needs her Diabetic 2 meds.
I also carry insulin and use a method similar to what you describe, a sandwich size ziplock to keep the insulin dry and another couple of gallon ziplocks filled with ice inside an old softside insulated lunch container. Then I put it inside my T-Bag to further insulate it from the heat. Worked fine for 8 hours on the way to Inzane last year through 100 deg. Missouri heat. The ice was melted but it was still cool inside the bag. At the hotel I try to get a room with a refrigerator when possible so it stays cold overnight. if that's not possible I just stick it in the ice bucket. She may want to ask her Dr. if the insulin pens might be better for traveling if she is using vials now.
