A little history first... I've had the bike a couple months and it has a belly tank from R&M works. My understanding is the petcock was altered by removing the guts from the OFF side of petcock. My first question is concerning the fuel line that drains the fuel from tank to belly tank. There is no clamp on it and i'm wondering how it unhooks from tank. It has a yellow ring in the very end of hose. I need to know if i can just pull it off or is there some trick to removing.
It threads into the fitting that was welded into the tank. Should be a brass-colored fitting above the yellow ring. Wrench to take it off.
Here is a link to my write-up on my belly tank install:
http://www.valkyrieguy.com/bellytank.htmThe petcock was modified to to be "open" all the time as it is now used as a vent for the belly tank. It becomes a simple valve that is only used to drain the "reserve" fuel down to the belly tank. When you turn it to reserve, it simply drains the remaining fuel down to the belly tank and then it becomes a vent again no matter what setting it is left on.
I have developed a gas leak at the petcock. Its a constant drip bout every 15 to 20 seconds.
Can i remove petcock without removing tank? Since it's set up to flow in the off position "bellytank" what to you think would be leaking?
Sounds like it is leaking at the point where the petcock threads onto the tank. I would take it off and check the threads, etc.
Forgot to ask "if" the petcock is really serving no purpose other than still being able to have a reserve, could i do away with it
It does serve a purpose; 1st, as vent to the lower tank, and 2nd, and more importantly, it still retains to reserve function for the Valk, if you run it without petcock you will lose reserve fuel.
The petcock is modified by moving the spring to the other side of the diaphragm to hold the diaphragm open all the time. The vacuum function to hold the diaphragm open is no longer needed or used.
Here's a link to Instruction Manual for the Belly Tank directly from R&M. It should answer most of your questions better. Also has the instructions for modifying the petcock if you have to get a new one or re-build the one you have.
