Well, first off welcome to the addiction!
Second...we have a lot in common. In December........Dec. 14th to be exact.....I flew out to Austin Tx. and purchased a Valkyrie in the colors and set up I had wanted. That was a Friday evening.
Got up the next morning and headed for Central Florida. Had a cold front pushing rain and wind and I started the day under the leading edge of it. Outran it by around 11AM but the cross winds were um..interesting. Made 600 miles the first day/night and slept just a few miles away from the Alabama border. Woke up the next morning and guess what caught me over night. Headed out in a light rain and wet roads which turned into heavy fog then wind then nice. By the time I got to Tallahassee I was "over" being on I-10 so I headed off and down to 27 for the rest of the ride, mostly on back roads. Made it home around 4:30 that afternoon for a total of about 1150 miles. What a ride!! What a bike !! These things are effortless on the open road.
Get onto the Florida board and get together with us sometime. Will see if I can get a few to head up your way for an overnighter.
Enjoy!
Great story Peppy ! Sounds like you had quite an adventure. The weather for me and the ride back here to Florida was GREAT - I didn't hit one drop of rain. I had originally planned to ride from Jackson, MS to home Sunday but my wife called and said to hold off a day because it was forecasting 100% on Sunday - she was right ! We got 4" that day - I hit the road early Monday morning - called her from Mobile and she said it was drizzling but not bad so I pushed on -- by the time I got here, the rain had stopped. You're right though - it's a beast on the open road -- my Triumph is a blast to, BUT on the highway not so much - crosswinds throw me all over the place and when I see an 18 wheeler in the rear view mirror I have to get the death grip to hang on. There are a couple of guys here locally with Valkyries - one 2 blocks from me. I'd love to hook up with some Floridians to ride with sometime !
