I was readin the motorcycle cruiser magazine and this fellow Mark Zimmerman who writes the shop talk did an article called a visit to the dark side  I dont know where they are located, I think the west coast but these folks travel

He asked if anyone wanted to meet and let him ride the tire, ya know switch bikes for a spell.  Maybe you should see if he wants to follow you and lucky13 on the dragon?  why not the best bike a valkyrie

Any darksiders out there call him on this one.

I went back to a cobra so I am not able to take him up on this anymore. Had a Toyo proxes T1R 55 series.  Loved it in the rain couldnt wrap my head around the handling setting up in curves. The cobra is just way better on roads that have the strip paving and where the lanes switch back and forth. I dont ride over 90mph with very few exceptions so cant address the high speed wobble issues

Lets see who puts their money where............

It would be nice if he gave you a place to contact him....

I'd swap bikes with him for an afternoon of riding.....

Especially for lunch, but, if he wants me to ride his VTX, I'll follow him on my Trike instead.

Don't have anything against a VTX, other than I hate the way the SOB's ride, and the damn controls....

Now, if someone will send me an address or phone # for him, I'll be glad to contact him and take his offer.

Oh, forget about that 877-388-7761 #, it rings once and you go off into cyber land.

Finally found a 'Contact us' link in their web page.

I made an offer for him to ride MGM, so we see what happens........

I'll try to keep everyone filled in on what happens when it happens.

Later.

I`m really looking forward to see the result.

I`m not 100% satisfied with my GENERAL ALTIMAX HP  205/55/16.
At high speed, 95MPH + the rear end starts moovong side to side. At 115 MPH I had to slow down, it was bad....
I have never experienced that with any MC tires. Maybe other CT are better at high speed?
But it performes excellent at speeds lower than 80 - 90 MPH

I highly doubt a national magazine would do a story about running a car tire, while dunflop runs big dollar ads in their magazine.
Maybe he is planning a crash and burn suicide video to slow the darkside use?
I would really be surprised to find out they love the darkside.
They can use my bike any time. cooldude Grin

Dag,

I have an Altimax HP 205/60/15 (H speed rated) with about 9,000 miles.  Here is the deal:

When I first installed the General at 9300 miles, I did not notice any high speed problems with my OEM Dunlop as the front tire (but, I'm not sure I ever rode over 90 mph).  I did notice counter steer.

When I installed a front tire Dunlop K491 Elite II MT90HB17 at 10400 miles, I noticed a little high speed instability.  At the same time, I noticed a marked improvement in handling at lower speeds, including the elimination of counter steer.  I did not pay a lot of attention to the high speed instability as I do not normally ride at speeds in excess of 80 mph.

At about that same time, FLAJIM commented that he was also running the Dunlop K491 Elite II as a front tire and a Michelin car tire in the rear, and he was experiencing high speed instability.  I checked my bike, and sure enough, I was unstable at speeds over 85 mph indicated (probably 80 mph actual).  I figured that because I ride at speeds less than 85 mph 99.9% of the time, this was not an important factor to me.  FLAJIM has since reported that he believes his instability was due to low tire pressure.  He now states he has no instability at high speeds.  FLAJIM has a Michelin car tire for a rear tire.

I guess the point I am trying to make is that different combinations of front and rear tires will result in different handling.  I do not believe that you can state the Altimax handles as follows _______________ without qualifying the statement by describing the front tire.  And maybe the tire pressures make a difference.

Dag, I guess if I were you, I would try experimenting with different pressures and maybe a different tire in front before I wrote off the Altimax.  Then again, I would be satisfied so long as there was no problem under 80 mph.  Finally, as cheap as the Altimax is, maybe an entirely different combination is in order.

Had my Interstate up to 100 mph and had no problems with stability. Running an Alitmax 205 60 R16 and a Cobra up front. I'm not in the habit of excessive speed. Get caught by the police here doing 100 mph and you loose your license and bike.
I'll never go back to a MC tire.

rear since spring.  I've got over 7000 thousand miles on the combo in all kinds of weather.  Here are my observations;  NO wobble at high speeds up to an indicated 130 mph Evil.  I am going deeper into corners and comming out harder than I ever did with a MC rear tire.  Smoother ride.  1000% better on wet roads.  Slight bump steer at speeds under 30 mph on some badly dished out roads.  The biggest problem that I am having since going to the Darkside is wearing out the bottom of my footpegs and the edges of my boots. 2funny

On the other hand, it might be better to leave it a mystery rather than stirring up some new legislation.
