I went outside about 3:00 this morning and walked right up on a skunk I got ran out of my shed last week about dark thirty with two of them in it. I've been seein' more and more around here lately. I've got 3 cans of cheap tuna my Remington Model 870 Wingmaster loaded with 4 shot and a six pack chillin' on ice and a 3X3 grave already dug....Tonight its war .

thats classic the great smokingjoe get run out of dodge by a lil stinker Had to go to war with them a few years ago and learned that the key is to get them in the ground fast. Grave is ready and I'm hoping to get at least two tonight. My daughter who lives behind us said she saw one during the day a couple weeks ago. I've heard if you see them in daylight they have rabies. I don't know if thats true and don't care cause they have invaded my space and they got to go.

When they took over here and showed up in the day time they had babies... Bonnie would get in their faces and bark. They'd spray her in the face. Then she'd kill them. One by one... -Mike

if you are outside tonight. I was just checking the radar, because they had mentioned the Nascar race may get some rain. I noticed quite a lot of rain looked like headed your way. Hope you don't see too many natural fireworks.

You could always make buddies with them and keep one or two as pets. One of the Ohio guys has done exactly that - very engaging little critters, albeit shy.

Either that, or it's extremely dry and they're out looking for water to drink. If you see one in the daytime, something's definitely up. Put some drinking water out and see. If it's ignored, chances are you are dealing with a rabid animal.

Joe if you cant get them, go to the feed store and buy some fly poison called Golden Maldrin. Take some out put a little mountain dew with it(makes it sweet), and mix it with tuna or hamburger. They wont make it very far. I had a coon getting in my horse feed bins, put out that concoction on advice from friends, and the coon did not make it 10 feet from the plate. A 1 lb can runs around $6

Last resort I hope, Bonnie, for one, would knock you down to get to it and eat it... in fact, she's gotten into something a couple of times recently that didn't kill her but made her unhappy and the vet richer... -Mike

Joe, keep the end with the tail on it away from ya..... They squirt out that end. So what is the score, Skunk __ - Joe __ Score ...Joe " 0 " ....I could'nt wait them out ...The city of Oak Ridge , Tennesssee shoots their fireworks out over the Clinch River just down the road from my house. They put on a hellofa show last night it was so loud it rattled the metal roof on my house . I think the skunks stayed away. Part #2 of the war on skunks will be tonight.

Joe, so how did the hunt go last night? EDIT: you beat me to it.
Some years ago, I put in a big patch of tallboy tomatos. Just as they were producing, I got invaded by a dozen raccoons. I could have used a shotgun, but that would have ruined the crop too.
So I took my 10-22 Ruger with four power scope, pulled a sock over the barrel and upper stock (to protect it from tape goop) and duct taped a good flashlight under the barrel. When they came visiting that night, I turned he flashlight on and this illuminated both the targets and my scope crosshairs. I was able to dispatch every offender with pinpont fire. This is a good nightime setup. May not be legal, but this was my own property, and I was not hunting, I was getting rid of pests. The .22 will also not make such a mess of a stinky skunk as the 12 bore.

Joe I don't mean to make you paranoid before your assault on the skunks, cause we are all rooting for you! However, you may want to consult the move "CaddyShack" before launching your initial salvo...and learn from the mistakes made by Carl Spackler (the groundskeeper played by Bill Murray) during his campaign against the gopher!

Its some bad stuff. You need to make sure to lock up the pets when using it. We put the barn cats in the garage for the night when I used it. if you cant get them, go to the feed store and buy some fly poison called Golden Maldrin.

I just won the first battle myself with a skunk. I got tired of meeting it on the carport everytime I walked out... needless to say the first meeting was a bit interesting. It ended after several nights of cat and mouse, and the 410 "sliding in underneath it." The stink is a problem unless you get it taken care of fast. I didn't because of the way it happened, dark outside, it didn't die immediately, I'm in the city limits (such as they are) and couldn't spend a lot of time walking around with the gun.... lol... I found it a few days later, lets just say the smell led me to it...
see ya..

Next time just soak a rag in ammonia and hang it where ever a skunk has made a home...it works. Live and let live is my motto. Hell, I carry spiders outside...drives people at work nuts.

My son, who lives in a suburb of Chicago, had to call a licensed exterminator for a skunk living under his porch. At night, I guess the skunk was fighting with raccoons which made a loud ruckus and the smell was getting into the house. The exterminator guy charged what I think was outrageouse - $125 up front. He baited a trap with a can of cat food and caught 4 raccoons before he caught the skunk. He relocated the raccoons, but he euthanized the skunk on the spot using a syringe on a long stick into the cage. These animals are nasty! If this happens again, I'll tell my son to try using Golden Malrin!

None taken Dale so far the skunks are winning but I've only baited and waited for them once on the 4th and the town of Oak Ridge shook my house with fireworks that night and the dude across the road must have took out a loan to buy fireworks cause he shot them from 5:00 that evening to about 2:00 the next morning.
