Hi all I have been lurking a while and have answered a few posts. I am looking at getting a trailer preferably the 4X8 from Harbor Freight and boxing it in or making an enclosed.  Heres the thing I also Fly R/C planes and want to mix both worlds when I go and visit my friend who also Flys and rides a Valk .
The biggest plane is about 7 1/2 foot long the others are smaller and all my planes put together probably do not weigh 75 pounds. Just wondering if I will be pushing the envelope pulling a 4X8 trailer and whatever the boxing in weighs..

Oh here is a picture of the plane well the big one anyway LOL

Oh and the wings come off for transport  Grin

I doubt the trailer too heavy, but keep the "boxing in" part as small as possible. Wind resistance will be your downfall.

I would do it, but build the box as low, as possible, maybe from Alu....

Nice plane!!  I've got a couple myself, although I haven't flown in a couple years.  They aren't nearly as nice as that one either.  I've got a Falcon III, a SuperSportster 40, an Olympic II sailplane, and a GWS Slo-Stick.  Plus I have an old Eaglet 20 that I had started converting to an electric, but never finished.  I even graded out and planted a grass runway in the field right out behind my house.  It's a little tight, but gets the job done.  I really should get my planes out again and get back into flying.

To answer your original question, I don't think it would be a problem to tow a longer trailer.  Heck, I have a pic of a bike towing a canoe!!  Like the others stated, aerodynamics will be the thing to deal with...and maintaining some amount of tongue weight to avoid sway.  But on the other hand, regarding aerodynamics, some of those camper trailers are just rectangle boxes, so I don't think it would be a be deal...especially if this is a trailer more-or-less dedicated to RC flying.  The only other thing I would say is that these trailers tend to bounce around a bit, especially when lightly loaded.  So make sure you pack everything securely so it doesn't get all beat up on the way to the field.  So you might want to build some kind of compartmentalized box with lots of foam padding.  And speaking of weight, your planes may not weigh much, but I've seen flight boxes that weighed in pretty heavy!!

I'd suggest a rubber torsion bar suspension instead of those STIFF leaf springs.

No problem. Mainly, you need to keep the trailer balanced, and has been said, as low as reasonable to carry your load. This trailer was made to carry 2 bicycles and camping gear

It would tow behind my old '83 GW at 80 MPH like it wasn't even there. It has a rubber torsion bar susp.

It might be just a bit short for your wings. But it's all in your design. The shell is fiberglass.

No not to short maybe not long enough has to be at least 90" long for the plane the plane is about 80 1/2 give or take can move the rudder a little well lol alot. Here is a video of what I do when I fly this is not my bird but like mine!!!

Here's a thread over on Wattflyer and it has photos of my Valk pulling a HF trailer with an old Sears car top carrier on it and some flying in West Tennessee.

Couldn't fit some of my longer wingspan planes on it so mama bought me a new 29 cu ft Carrier from Sears for fathers day. Works out great! I've ridden several hundred miles to SEFF hauling planes and camping gear with zero problems with the old setup, now I've got more room for larger planes.

Allen,  how long have you been in Conroe? We travel thru there often as our son attend A&M in College Station. We live in Huffman over by Lake Houston and travel  FM1485 to 336 to 105 and on up to highway 6 to A&M. IF we're not in a hurry we take more back roads and stay off 105 all together. Maybe we can get together for a cool one sometime.  I've got a 2000  red/black I/S.
