Hmmmm... they have an 80 amp vs the 40 amp, for just 20bucks more..... seems like that may be a good idea.???? anyone have experience with the higher output?

got the service guy at wall honda in indianola to go with the 97 gl1500 gold wing alternator for $334.00 the difference will pay the air fare to retrieve the bike.plus some gas i feel guilty for not having taken care of the new plugs onto the starter relay.i also wonder if the shark radio amp is the cause of all this .is the 97 valk alternator a 40 amp ? and is the gw 1500 alternator more powerful? thanks

When Van Wall told me you couldn't get in till late afternoon I called the Honda dealer here in DSM, and since you were on the road you would have been the next machine on a hoist. I was all hooked up to my trailer to come get ya from Van-Wall and bring ya'll up here. Anyway, glad ya got it fixed. I don't particularly like Van-Wall, I got into it with them a few years ago in another town. Right now you could call them a major corporation, and they run things their way. They own 4 John Deere Dealers, 3 motorcycle shops, 6 Lawn Mower (John Deere) and God only know how many more things they got their fingers in. Real glad ya got fixed up. Sorry we couldn't of hooked up and saved ya some $$$$$.

Thanks R J, it s a short ride but it ll be a pleasure to make your acquaintance. the info- o7/29, SW, 505 ,from Chicago - midland airport. lands 1:25pm in Des Moines. bout van wall.it was interesting to see a rather beatup I/S show up outside the store by early afternoon, the alternator cover was off as some of the tupper ware.the sevice manager said it d been sitting a long time and woulnot start. offered to talk to the owner about taking the alternator out and sending another one when i got back! Twas impossible to contact the guy! so more i m thinking - There s my $636.00 + tax alternator!!!

Yeah, I know who you are talking about. He also tried to get ahold of you to offer his alternator.
I'm kind of glad it didn't work out for your benefit. That was a motor from Pinwall that he had jusr installed and it no fire up. Sounded to me like it had some major problems in there somewhere.
This way I think you got the better deal, even thought it was expensive.

It has cooled off since you were here. So I wouldn't worry too much about that bike, it no like the chilly weather, it is from TEXAS.

It was cold ,had to pop in waly world to buy a sweater. the bike is home at last .Rode in last night at 2:00am, the last leg in the night It was cool here too but not as much. $615.40 for the install of the GW alternator . About $65.00 more than it was sopposed to be "a screw broke and we had to drill it out" I did not break it! lol. signed and got the heck out . Thanks, R J ,it was great meeting you .You got a lot stories to tell . you should write them down! My MGM is home and yet to be unloaded!lol

Fred, glad to hear you are home safe and sound.
I was going to send out a search party for you if nothing was posted by 6:00 PM tonight.
By the way, it would have been about $300 more if you'd of waited for a Valkyrie alternator.

Glad you finally made it, Fred. Not been on the board in awhile, but I have been concerned about the final results of your being stranded on the road home.
Glad all worked out even though it was a little more expensive a trip than planned.
