Valk didn't like the hot week of INZANE at Lacrosse. Have some gas leaking from carbs 1 and 5. Leaking at float bowl gaskets. Does anyone know if the fuel level is above the gaskets when the needles are working properly. The carbs are at a weird angle so the float bowls are not horizontal. Don't know if I have to replace the gaskets and needles or just the gaskets. Have the carb assembly sitting on the floor with fuel supply connected and have not seen any fuel leaking down the intake tubes so the needles are not stuck completely open - maybe worn or defective ?? Anybody seen this scenario in the past ?? thanks for any help before I go completely nuts joe whalen sebastian fl

It's a shame you already took the carburetors off the motor.
Pretty extreme reaction to a few leaky experiences.
A good dose of additive over a number of tankfuls of fuel should take care of the problem.
For the immediate fix it normally takes a few easy taps on the fuel bowl to let the needle system start working properly.
The carburetors are pretty much bullet proof and seldom, if ever, need to be disassembled.
A regime of strong doses of varying additives usually take care of these kinds of problems.
It (the malady) can almost always be laid at the foot of alcohol enriched gasoline.

Normal level is below gaskets. Good time to clean and check needles. I am in W Melbourne, PM me with your phone #. I will give you a call.

Since you already have your carb bank out of the bike, give everything a good cleaning. Keep the carb bank together and take it from there. Have you desmogged your bike? Maybe now would be a good time. After you have the carbs reinstalled, synchronize them. AND was previously mentioned, periodically (monthly) use an additive to keep your carbs clean.

My 2 cents now that they are out. Fuel rail O-rings, remove alt. cover before you sync.

changed fuel rail o-rings. confusion - what does the alt cover have to do with syncing the carbs //
watched the guy at INZANE balance quite a few but didn't notice him removing the alt cover, but I am old so I probably missed that.

Well, you can look at the sudden rise in cost of the cover from $30 to listing around just under $200 for a replacement. Fact: over heating of the alt cover during carb sycronization can/has wrinkled the chrome plating and leaves you with an ugly piece of plastic in less than 10 min. Only take about 2 min. to remove.

Be extremely careful handling the vacuum diaphragms, one little crack and they are shot, and super expensive.
If you are cleaning the inside of the carb bowls, make sure those pesky float valves, retaining pin, and seats you spend some extra attention on.

Time to close this thread. All is well in Valk land. Ran like a ragged piece of s____ when I first starfted it but a sync and everything is fine. Had to replace float gaskets as they were eaten away in most carbs. $12 ea - ouch. Everything shiny inside and good for another 50k miles I hope.
THANKS again to all With any luck I won't be bothering you guys again for a long time !!
