No Chevy No Chrysler.

So I was driving home last night down auto alley, a part of the highway that sells every make and model of car in our area, and it dawned on me that Chevy has closed a ton of dealerships, and Chrysler is out of business again. All that was left was Nissan, Toyota, Honda, One Ford Dealer, and a Jeep Dealer. Even the local Saturn Dealer has left town! Why is it that you never hear about bailouts for the Jap companies? Sure no one would care about a foreign company going out of business, but they don’t! You never hear about Toyota having to close dealerships just to make ends meet, or do they?
What’s wrong with the American Auto industry?

In short, the unfortunate answer is: arrogance, narrow mindedness and tunnel vision.
In a 'former life' I did some work with one of the big three. Both Management and Union would comment "we're the biggest and the best; if people want to drive our cars they'll have to pay a premium." My response was "that will be your demise; people don't necessarily want your product; you need to compete for customers and their continued patronage." Unfortunately, that company has a 'Q' at the end of their stock ticker, despite the bail-out.
