Haven't posted much lately 'cause I'm having trouble keeping the dial up

connected. Talked with the ISP friday and they say it's coming from my end. Doesn't seem to be the phone line so I'm gonna get a new cord between the PC and the phone. If that don't do it. I guess it's time for a new modem.

We did that route... Even changed all the lines under the house....
 This last week has been the worse...
Even Don's desktop has not been staying on line...

I have been kicked off 8 times in the last 10 min  

It's forces beyond our control ....

Some of us live in areas where Dial-Up is the only option available.


I guess sometimes you pay a price for living in "Gods" Country.

Even out in the boonies, there's still many microwave relay ISP's, and beyond that, there's satellite internet now available up and down these days... I've got some friends out in the sticks that use both of those options...

I realize having high speed internet isn't the top priority for everyone, not trying to be elitist or anything, but there are other options...

My understanding of Sattelite i.e. service from Direct TV or Dish Network is that it is expensive (apx. $80/mo) and really is not much faster than dialup.

I have considered using an aircard but those services aren't truly unlimited access.

I would gladly spring for DSL if it was available here.

If you have good cell service in you area, buy a Verizon USB stick.  $60/month and almost as fast as cable broadband.  I know because I have one!!     5gb/month is more than you will ever use (unless you are downloading serious files).  It will work on your desktop or laptop and you can switch in between.  I am considering getting rid of Comcast broadband cable modem because Verizon is almost as quick.  I don't have a land phone line either.  Just use cell.

I see folks post about livin' in the woods and show a picture of their home with houses all around we call that a subdivision in the south. My friend Ron ( Normandog ) does live in the woods in a beautiful log cabin just off the James River. I could'nt imagine going back to the old AOL days with dial-up but I would think about it to live in Ron's world

Sometimes I think that would beat what I have now.

I thought about the issues y'all have had. I had the phone company out here in January 'cause of static on the line. Whatever they did worked well for 3 or 4 months. Now there's no static but we lose dial tone for anywhere from seconds to hrs.  Yesterday we had no dial tone for almost 10 hrs. I rode the 4 miles to where I could get a signal an called the phone company on my cell. Said they would be out today or tomorrow. 30 minutes after I got home, we had dial tone. Got on line. Got kicked off in like 15 minutes and no dial tone. Chit like this drives me crazier.

We use a microwave type set up here in the country.  Works great.  I cannot imagine going back to dial up, so I feel for you.  Although, I never had many problems with it, just slow.
I doubt microwave would work in your area, as it needs line of sight.  Works good in ND, but not in the mountains!
