Heard a rubbing/grinding coming from the area of the rear brake caliper/rotor. Took it to the Honda shop and they removed the caliper...cleaned up the pistons (which may have been sticking)...replaced the rubber rings inside the piston cylinders and the rubber boot dust covers...replaced the caliper...bled the brakes...and STILL the rubbing/grinder noise persists! If you take the caliper completely OFF the bike and ride it down the road, it makes NO noise at all...only with the caliper in place does it make the noise. The techs have admitted to being "stumped" on this one! They DID say that it "appears" as though something...about a quarter of an inch wide...has apparently been rubbing against the outside edge of the tire rim itself!? Could THIS (whatever it may be) be the source of the noise...and if so, what could it be? Could I have picked up something from the road, that may have wedged itself up in there somewhere otta sight? It would appear as though I even have the experts puzzled on THIS one! ??? Any ideas?

+1 but doesn't explain why there is no noise when the caliper is off. What kind of brake pads are in the caliper?

I'll check on the brake pad brand...pretty sure their the semi-metallic type!? Right, it MUST be caliper or brake pad related, since I hear NOTHING when their removed!? Maybe the long mounting bolt (to the left) is going in to far...and rubbing against the tire rim? Just wildcarding here???

If you have suspicions that may be the problem, it doesn't take much effort to get a flashlight and a mirror to look and see....

With caliper off then it does not rub as rotor is hard bolted to wheel and if play in bearing it also throws off rotor, Is noise there if you put light pressure on rear brake? does rubbing change while leaning to left or right?

I had my rear wheel bearing go bad @ less than 10k. The noise you describe was the same. We found the left wheel bearing was rusted badly, (so no more pressure washing).

Question:
You do realize the pads will rub at all times on that caliper?
That is the way they are designed.
Post a picture or 2 of your rotor and wheel please.
I've had a lot of calipers off of Valks and I can't figure out which bolt you are referring to that you suspect as rubbing the rim.
Currently I don't have a bike here that I could look at. MGM is now a Trike.
PS: That was the best $$$$ spend by this old-timer.
