Thank you for placing your confidence in Godfire and me by electing/appointing/drafting us to lead the DFW VRCC for the next year.  Or, to restate, are we suckers or what?   Wink

On a serious note, thanks everyone for welcoming me into the group (rather late).  After lurking for some time, I got my Valkyrie in August of '07, but my first VRCC activity was not until March '08 when I rode the DFW - to - OK Valhalla Voyage hand-off.  Since then, I have looked forward to every meeting, ride, chicken fried steak, and wrench party there has been.

I don't have perfect attendance, but it's pretty high.  The only things that score higher than my attendance are the levels of support, technical assistance, roadside assistance, and friendship I've received from - along with the fun I've had with - all of you who beat me to the VRCC party.  I will try to reciprocate to my predecessors and to those I beat to the party.

Godfire and I will be meeting this week to discuss ideas we each have and ideas that have been discussed at various times in the past about possible changes to the DFW VRCC.  We don't want change to be in the form of deleting anything.  We want to add as many options/activities for people to participate in as we can.  To do that, we will need input and assistance.   So, let's get a discussion going about the "whats", "whens", and "wheres".  The "whos" will sort themselves out.  The "whys" are understood.

Please, everyone jump in.  There are no bad suggestions.  Well, I guess there could be...

Thanks again,

DFG/Dave in Frisco (TX)/Bonzo?

That was my first ride with the group also Dave.

How about breakfast and lunch rides.  The only times this group seems to meet anymore is for monthly club meetings and every three of four months a wrench party.  What happened to "ride to eat, eat to ride"?

How about breakfast and lunch rides.

Those were touched on again last Thursday along with alternating Saturday rides and Sunday rides to accommodate more people.  If, in month one, there is a Saturday ride, and in month two, there is a Sunday ride, and so on, AND if someone can only ride on one of those days, he/she only has a total of 6 weekend rides available per year.  IMO, that's not enough.  The flipside is that to have one Saturday and one Sunday ride per month means that we're gonna have to have even more input and assistance.

Another variation discussed briefly was to continue the second-Thursday evening dinner/meeting that everyone is used to, but to move the "meeting" portion (door prizes, etc) to a Saturday or Sunday breakfast/lunch ride.

Keep 'em comin'

I am really late to the VRCC ballpark, having not ridden in almost 7 years, never having been a serious rider before, and only getting my Valk 3 months ago. I had a great time Saturday with the group who showed up to wrench and am looking forward to some rides. I have no experience leading a ride, but I do have years of experience coordinating group travel both as a travel agent and a scuba instructor. I would love to see a couple of spring and fall overnighters. Possibly Mena AR or Broken Bow OK areas. Trips with a destination or activity always rank high on my list. Mines, tube floats, fossil hunts, museums, etc... I would certainly be willing to help coordinate.

Another first timer here, the DFW - to - OK Valhalla Voyage hand-off was my first ride with the DFW VRCC.

This year I plan to help out when I can.  The breakfast or lunch rides are a good idea.  I am more than happy to lead a few but it is hard for me to plan way in advance.  If riders don't mind a spur of the moment ride I will plan some.  We can also do some wrench days and maybe change it up a bit and include a cookout at the same time.  We can also get some Hooter Passports and do a Passport Ride.  Once we get the Hooter Passport filled we could have some Wing Parties, no I don't mean a GWRA party. lol

Have we ever thought of doing a Bike Night?  Just a thought.

Wrench party with cookout, I can do that. We can wrench at the shop and cook at the house. I'm up for that.

Vermithrax, I started mine a week or so ago. Say when and where and we can hit a couple at a time.

Sounds good Ghille.  I picked up my passport and received my first stamp at the Plano Hooters.  Usually my wife and I go to either Plano or McKinney when we are after wings.  I don't know where any of their other restaurants are but I'll go check their site for a comprehensive list of Texas restaurants.  Maybe we can hit McKinney and then head for Sherman, Lewisville or Denton.

Yeah we were so hungry by the time we got through three or four bikes and the heat was getting to us even with the fans running. We bailed out and ran for a burger. Next time I will definitely get the grill and the smoker cranked up.

On the Hooter's note I have Plano, Mesquite and S Arlington so going North and West works for me. I have all 16 of the local ones mapped out. Anyone else up for a Hooter's run, might be time to start a new thread.
