Fudgie: Where do you swipe a debit card at a TT bar?

That would seem self evident... The bigger question would be, how do you input your PIN number???  Wink
You got it mixed up. It's not how you input your pin but where you input it! I would've thought a recent dad as yourself would know  2funny

I agree, that $20 is legal in all 50 states regardless of what their security system accepts.  I don't think it even matters if they put a sign up.
If their scanner does not accept your $20 bill it is their problem , not yours.  The manager should have know this and had a way to put a $20 in the cash register underneath the smaller bills and coins and give you the change just like they do often if you watch in many establishments.  I have seen it enough to know if I was a crook there were ALWAYS $20s to be had under the small bills and coins.

If I had the time I'd like to stand my ground and let them call the cops.  Their ignorance is not your problem.  Of course that didn't get that chicken sandwich in your belly.

Actually, I thought so too, but a merchant is NOT legally required to take a specific piece of US currency, or even required to take cash at all. A US Federal Reserve Note is legal tender for all DEBTS public and private, but a retail purchase is not a debt, so it's the merchant's discretion as to if they wish to accept a particular piece of currency, or physical currency at all...

Went to Wendys this eve to pick up a chicken sandwich, paid with a twenty dollar bill, the clerk looked at it and said, we cannot accept this bill it is too old.

If you had already accepted the burger from them then goods AND service were rendered and all U.S. money, coin or currency, satisfies the debt according to federal legal tender law.

As for the toll bridge lady... if they post notice saying to the effect of "nothing over $20 accepted" then they can legally refuse $100 bills since the service of allowing bridge passage wasn't yet rendered and no federal law mandates that a person or business must accept cash for services not yet rendered.

Oh you know!  Grin

Just had the bartender hold a tab with it. Already spent $250 at the licker store and $120 from some guy so I had no cash right off hand. But it was quite a party at the tt bar. I think I spent $200 there.  Evil It was a great night except for them taking the number.  Angry Now when I go to a tt bar near us we pay cash even tho I trust our waitress.

So you insulted a hard working woman because she was following her companies policy??
She insulted me first, came across as if I was trying to pass a counterfeit bill, she is very lucky I did not say more than I did. A couple customers behind me walked out when I did.  And I quote one of them said what an asshole. referring to the manager.

Not hate and not despise but close. These little piss ant sumbitches they have/leave in charge that don't have clue one on how to interact with the public just drive my blood pressure up and give me an acid stomach. Usually but not always some snot nosed twerp or twerpet that should have stayed home playing video games. I couldn't get one to get off the damn cell phone to wait on me.  Lips Sealed I'll stop now before I really piss my self off.  2funny RIDE SAFE.

There was not then, nor is there now any such notice approaching this bridge or at the toll booth(s).

Testing the waters, I've since done the same thing (I had three dollar bills on me just in case) and received no flak, crap, attitude or grief over using a $100 bill at this same bridge.  The change made was in 20's and smaller.

When I presented the $100 bill the second time, I asked if there was any policy against taking them.  The guy said no and that with the amount of tourists that come over that bridge, they get $100 bills all the time.

No attitude was given, no one wanted my tag number.

I proved to myself at least, that I had encountered a soured up bitch that liked to make up her own rules.

Well, there you go. This place is obviously having issues with people trying to pass counterfeit bills.
That's why they got the machine that scans them.

This does suck for the honest, law abiding folks for sure.

But maybe the manager got a call in the morning saying last nights deposit had 6 counterfeit $20 bills and it can't happen again.

I guess I tend to try and understand their predicament.

If folks have making counterfeit bills, like the one you had, down to a science and are passing them off in that neighborhood, I'd understand their policy of not accepting bills without security features.

And while you are an honest and forthright fella, even you can't know for sure the origin of the bill you had (assuming you didn't get it directly from the US mint or bank cashier). Perhaps it came to you as change from another business that took a real good, well made counterfeit bill.

I guess he wants the business to keep getting burned by fake bills so that he isn't inconvenienced by not getting his sandwich.
