Interstate ICM or Standard

I replied awhile back of haveing problems with my 99 standard running poorly after warmed up. I checked the vent line and I am still having problems when warmed up it wants to start cutting out when I reach 65 mph and timing starts misfiring. I want to know if it is worth the extra $200 bucks to get the IS Ignition Module or just get a new Module for the standard. Not sure if the benefit is worth the extra costs. I'm not sure I want to try the Dyna 3000 if I can find an IS at a reasonable costs. Right now my Dealer is quoting my $470 for an IS module. I have seen used IS modules on ebay but really would rather have a new one. Any info surely appreciated
Thanks
Terry

Not sure what all you have been through but you may want to check a few other things prior to spending some money.
- Is the problem consistent at a given engine speed - such as 3200 RPM all gears.
- Separate and reseat ignition related multipin connectors
- Is it only on one set of cylinders or does it effect all (check with a timing light when warm and see if it is just one coil misfiring as the coil could breakdown when it heats up.
- If the problem is with one coil you could change the coil around and see if the problem follows the coil or stays with the set of holes , if this happens then it is likely an ICM or wiring harness problem.
- I believe that the ECT is out of the picture above 2000 RPM (someone clarify please) so there is likely no problem related to that.

I would do more troubleshooting before you go for the ICM. However if you do decide to go for it, it is worth the extra money. I found a I/S ICM here on the classifieds for 150.00. Workes great. Big improvment to the bike.

I would suggest to ask HDL for a price for the IS ICM. I bought mine from them, and i´m sure, i paid in the range of 2xx USD. Also PinwallCycles has them used from time to time....

I would try another module to see if that is really your problem. But I have a standard and of course it came with the standard module which I wouldn't replace it with I would do the interstate or personally the best choice is the Dyna. Some bikes dont play well with the Dyna mine is one of them and I have had to replace mine 5 times. It has never let me down on the road but I get a miss at 1800 rpm, above and below is fine. They are no longer going to make them and when the supply is gone they are gone thats it. I have worked with Dyna in the past and have eliminated some problems to make the thing work with more bikes. So when my last Dyna unit went I wasn't a happy camper I really dont like repairing the same issue more than once so I went with the interstate ICM. I bought it from Pinwall for 180 and I would say that with a 4 degree advance on the timing wheel is ok. Without advancing the timing the fuel mileage on the Valk is not good, by advancing the timing you will increase the mileage. The interstate module did just that but like I said it also took 4 degrees advance on the wheel. This advance curve is pretty close to the Dyna which is the best choice. So there you have it from someone that has had all three and lived with them for a time.
