People have been contacting me about Colorado rides and wanting to know when and where they are. I've decided to start a "Colorado Riders Thread for all the riders in this area. This way it will be up to you to check the board for rides. If you want to post a ride you can do it in this thread. When someone posts in a thread you can be notified by it. Where you can post a new topic in the general board there is an icon that says "! Notify" and this will allow you to be notified of anyone's post in the thread. This way is easier for the fact of not having anyone left out of rides or not knowing about a ride. This can be day rides or over night rides, any riding is great! When posting about a ride make sure to state a meeting place and departure time. If you're planning to join somebody on a ride post back to this thread or PM the person so they know not to ride off without you. Ride safe and I hope to see more rides happening.  cooldude

Glad you are starting this thread, Damon!  It looks like you guys over there in the "Banana Belt" might even be able to get in some more good rides this season.  Us guys on this side of the Divide where the water runs West are about done for the season!  Is it Spring yet?

Come to Durango for a meet and greet!

I like to ride solo, but I also like a group ride and hanging with understanding bikers.
It gets lonesome out here in the sticks--near Durango.

I thought I'd try setting up a few ride outs, but I'm not sure who's coming from where and given the distances 'round here I thought to begin with I'd try this:

How 'bout instead of a 'ride out,' we have a 'ride in?'

Some upcoming weekend anyone that wants to but folks especially from SW Colorado, NE Arizona and NW New Mexico come on up to Durango for lunch at Serious Texas south (the one by the Harley store  Grin Grin). I'll set up a private-ish room, we'll get some lunch and talk about putting together some rides--soon if weather allows, spring if not.

Ride in if the weather suits, or cage it if not. If the spirit moves and the weather agrees, maybe a little ride after lunch?

Reply here if you're interested with the best date for you and armed with that info, I'll make some BBQ reservations!

Looking forward to hearing from the vast numbers of VRCC members in the 4 Corners!!  cooldude

This Saturday, Misfit and I and anyone who wants to get their knees in the breeze for a longer-than-errands ride after the winter slowdown, are welcome to join us.  Meeting at Apex Sports in Co Springs at 9, depart 9:30 sharp.  Weather not supposed to arrive until evening; forecast (update below) in the 70's. Riding to Silver Cliff for lunch, then returning the back side of Pike's Peak, nice twisties and no traffic back there.  I will probably turn off at Woodland Park for anyone who wants to continue North on 67 to Deckers.  From the cafe there, we will choose either continue on 67 along the S. Platte and over the hogback to Sedalia, or N. on 126 to 285 and back into the metro area via Pleasant Park, the High Grade, and Deer Creek.  All very nice rides except the 4 mi of gravel on the hogback.

I'm bringing two HERO cameras for fwd and back views, want to get videos within the ride so I will likely be changing positions in the ride to film riders.  Have plenty of SD card space and batteries.   Maybe someone else can lead so I can do that.

Here's the route as far as Woodland Park:

Dang MarkT, that looks like a good ride.   Too bad I'm not closer, I'd tag along, but around 625 miles to get there, it ain't in the cards for this old fart anymore.

When I first got MGM, I'd of been there in a heart beat.

I was younger and more active.

Anyone who attends this ride, be safe and don't get to acting silly.    We lost a rider today on the bypass just South of me about 1/2 mile.     A cage driver in the wrong lane going the wrong direction took him out.

Good luck with that.  Got my SS1000 around 10yrs ago.  They give a nice pin along with the documents and license plate embellisher.  Still think you oughta start around dinner time but that takes some time to shift your sleep schedule.

I read that some mountain areas could see 1-2 feet!  But the front range should get in the 70s today so it's time for a ride.

Good ride today.  Was very windy.  No big deal but it stirred up so much dust the mountain range just past Silver Cliff was largely obscured by dust.  Too bad, it's spectacular, would have looked good on video.  Got some good videos in the twisties and running over Skyline Drive between Canon City and Royal Gorge.  Scary ride if you are acrophobic.  Good thing I was a HG pilot.  Reviewed a couple of the videos.  Now the effort goes into editing and posting to youtube.  I'll try to get at least one up pretty quick.

I was in the same wind storm in Texas, and New Mexico on my Iron Butt - Saddle Sore ride. Miserable. The head winds on I-40 were so strong the valk would barely do 75 and made me hit reserve at just 92 miles.  We had rain through Santa Fe, and it was 43 degrees over Raton pass. We however did make the 1,000 miles in just over 20 hours.  Smiley

Good job!  Way ta hang in there.  Maybe the IBA ought to have an Enhanced Challenge Award for rough conditions.  Wait, then they would have to award it to American Twinky drivers for fixing breakdowns and still making the deadline.  Add a Fast Mechanic embellishment.

Sorry I couldn't make it out yesterday...(I'm doubly sorry you all waited around for me. Embarrassed)
Glad some of you all were able to get out and enjoy some time in the wind...and there was sure plenty of that around here!
Joshcornkid, congrats on earning your Iron butt in difficult conditions!

Incidentally...Do any of you ride a Blk/Red Interstate?  I saw one yesterday just west of Bennett on I-70 W/B around 3 in the afternoon.  He was out with a Harley rider.

The next few weekends are shot for me, as I have Army training..

I visited the Hole in the Rock while passing thru about 15 years ago on a ride with friends who came in from CA and we met in NV.  Seems to me it was near Lake Havasu.  It didn't have that garish paint on the rock then.  The shop had no heating/cooling needed.  Cool inside with no AC and 100+ outside.  Same for winter, no heat needed.  Love to have their utilities bill.

That old truck (wrecker) is a Diamond T.

In my home town growing up, the Fire Dept had 1, and the 3 gas stations and the Nash garage each had one.

My crazy uncle bought the one the Fire Dept had and hauled gravel in it.    It looked just like it did when the FD bought it when he got it, 6 weeks later it almost looked like the one in the picture from all the gravel and rock that missed the box when loading.    He ended up using it as a wreckr also later in years.

My dad was an Army wrecker driver in the Korean "Police Action". When he got out he worked for a garage that had a Dodge Power Wagon. I have good memories going with him on calls and towing his race car to the race track on Saturday nights.

Thanks for the thread.  Spent 2 days in a cabin in Buena Vista with my daughter.  Cottonwood Pass has a whole bunch of snow so the runoff should be good for rafting in a month.  I hit the "notify" so I will watch for any rides coming up this summer.  There are still plenty of Valkyries in Colorado.  That old 99 with the American Flag is still rolling down the road in Colorado Springs.  Blaze lives!
See ya' all soon.
