Had my orthopedic appt. this afternoon, not happy. Seems the years are catching up, the cartilage is almost nil. The dr. asked if I had spent any time jogging in years past....oh yeah, big time. Not unusual to run 15 miles 2-3 times a week with shorter runs in between. Felt great at the time. But now my knees and hips are paying the price, some folk can do it for years with no trouble and some can't and it catches up with them....apparently genetic. So, he wants to try an injection first, directly into the joint. Gives me the willies just thinking about, especially since he showed me where they go in. If I get relief for a few months at a time, then good. If not, it's the knife. The shot hasn't been scheduled yet, but will be soon I was told. After last year's episode, I'm in no big hurry to spend another 2-3 days in the hospital.

He asked me about my activities and when I mentioned riding a motorcycle, he cringed. I asked about his reaction, he told me he's seen too many riders with their legs tucked in behind them so I know he's thinking crotch rockets. I showed him my riding position and said it doesn't ride hardly any more harsh than my SUV. He was surprised at that but still was skeptical. He'll learn one day.   Grin

John, stay positive my friend, that is half the battle.
Hope the injection works so you don't have to have surgery and you can get back to riding.  cooldude

Well, at least now you know John. You had pretty much figured out what the problem was going to be. So let's hope the shot works for awhile, I know it hurts, been there, done that, but it will give you some relief for awhile. Hang tough my friend, and like Terry said, stay positive.  Smiley

Look on the bright side...

Hip replacement REALLY is not, that,,,, bad.

N' once it's done,, no more needles every couple of months.

Now knees, from what I've seen n' heard,,, are another animal all together.

John I have a friend at work who has had the shots in his knees and is very happy with the results. They usually lasts about five to six months.
I think I'd do them a few times before going under the knife.

Sorry to hear of the trouble John, hope the shots do the trick. I can imagine the pain, I get it some times, but not that bad.  Had hip surgery 20 years ago to repair the hip joint, I managed to crack the socket, so now I have a plate there, and a bunch of screws. If you need any thing, just give me a call.
