Just noticed that the brake light stays on.  Pretty sure it has been working but then maybe it wasn't.  Backed the rear brake switch, for light, so I'm sure  it's not engaged.  Started getting cold so I had to quit with my troubleshooting.  Didn't get to check out the front brake switch yet.  Have to continue on tomorrow.  Any known problematic brake light conditions?

The brake switches get old and cruddy, and will stick on.  The rear can also be adjusted a bit, but probably need cleaned and lubed.

Thanks Jess.  I'll give it a look tomorrow.

Do you have the Goldwing adjustable levers on the bike.

If so as I do - on the front brake lever had to epoxy a small spacer on the lever arm that makes contact to the switch.

Usually the Rear Brake Switch Adjustment when the light Stays on ,But could br the Front Brake Lever Switch.
To Check the Front Switch you can Un-Plug the Two small wires that go to the small Switch on the Front Brake Lever and if it goes Off that is the Culprit,if not check the Rear Brake Switch at the Right Foot Peg/Brake Lever for adjustment. It Screws in or Out to Adjust,Like on an Automobile. Hope this is Helpful,Bert.

Update:  Checked out both brake light switches and they are fine.  Checked the wiring schematic and the brake lights pick up it's ground thru the turn signal relay.  The running lights works fine as well as the turn signals.  It's brake light only that's the problem.  Trying to get my hand down into the bowels to remove the relay is being a problem right now even with overflow tank removed.  I guess I just gotta "keep on keeping on!"  May have to remove the battery and battery box.

Before I go any further, I think I'll put the tail light housing off and see if the problem is maybe a broken wire or connection has come loose for the brake light.  That would be an easy fix.  The turn signals are working so I'm thinking the ground is good thru the relay.  (Just thinking out loud!)

Before going through all that, I'd be tempted to trace out the wiring at the taillight to see if there's a short in there somewhere. Sure wouldn't be the first time a short developed at the entry point in the fender.

Just a suggestion but I would start pulling wires off anything in the circuit, n' see which one causes the light to go off.

When I was going darkside, I discovered the wire harness in the rear fender had come a bit loose and was a bit scrubbed.  I had not had any short or malfunction YET, but repaired it just the same.  Another possibility.

Final Update:  I noticed that the brake light filament was staying on with both switch's disconnected.  Found quick connects in the wiring harness that were not original.  The brown wire and the green wire.  Both were connect to each other properly butt I switched them to see what happened.  "Magically" the running light filament stayed on and brake filament went out.  Tested foot and hand brake and it now works perfectly.  Soooo sometime in the bikes ownership Mr. Shadetree was in the wiring and got something screwed up somewhere.  It works fine now so I'll leave it alone and "ride with the wind!"

Obviously he was a man with zero,,, electrical know how..

From a man with past experience letting the smoke out of 12V wiring systems, I believe it is NOT the man with zero knowledge that is the problem (he tries nothing);  rather, it is guys like me with a little knowledge that are a danger to themselves and others.    Grin

Well, smoke came out of it wired up red to green... so lets try it with green to red.

On the other hand, I've only electrocuted myself once on 110 (and it was a damn good thing I was grounded to that concrete floor).  crazy2

James Thurber, the famous American humorist wrote that his old grandmother believed if you left a light bulb out of a lamp socket, electricity leaked out into the room.

Glad you found the problem Ron.
