Boys, your showing your age or lack of. Kenny pissed me off when he sold out to country. KR and the FE was THE rock band. Many moons ago. That song still sounds great, and Kenny is not so great the last while,....he sold out.
Dolly....That song was written for her. Listen to it. Her plaintive voice, the high notes, the theme, Hell I'd climb that stairway over a mile of broken glass, covered in turds like you two.
Quit categorizing people, and imagine for a minute that people like to live outside the box that they, or others, build around them.

Well motorman I never thought about it like that but now that you mention it. I have never really been a big fan of country and to me Dolly singing stairway is wrong. As for Kenny I only bought into the image marketing that he did for himself. The song condition came out over 30 years ago and I really liked it. At that time I had a good stereo in my room and my car and wasn't interested in who made the music or the history behind it. What I was interested in well lets just say the opposite sex played a big role in my interest. With that said it wasn't until BS Nicely started to post the history of some of the music that I really began to take a interest in what had gone on in the late 60 s and early 70s, not only as far as music. When this song came to me last night and I saw who made it after the image of Kenny Rogers Roasters and the Gambler and all the specials he has done as the Kenny that I know it really shocked me. Not being a personal friend on Kennys I dont know the man and only go by the image presented to me. I personally dont make judgments about people I go more on actions than words I found that people say quite a few things both good and bad but their actions speak louder than words. In fact I really enjoy when people meet me and then in a meeting may meet me again and are really quite shocked at the change. This sounds more like a personal battle and really didnt need to be brought here, I was hoping that if someone knew more and enjoyed the music like I do then maybe they would add to the info. Its really fun to discover new things and I really had a good laugh at listening to one of my old favorites again. I thought that I would share a walk down memory lane with a twist. For you if you would really broaden your horizons and learn more and understand more then the label that people put on you wouldn't stick. Maybe in this case the label is true.

These are interesting cross pieces, from what has become the mainstream image for both artist. I think after watching, the Kenny Rogers piece blows me away more so, than the Dolly piece. Led Zeppelin's music has been converted and played by so many artists now, ( A testament to their material ) I am no longer surprised when I see this sort of transition. After viewing, I can also see where Dolly's personal twists truly make this her own. Enjoyable at that. I do come from the background where I relish the more bluesy roots of Zeppelin, making Physical Graffiti my favorite album from the group, and I enjoy a number of good remakes. Does anyone have GREAT WHITE performing "Babe I'm gonna leave you" OR Ann and Nancy Williams performances of Zeppelin? ( Misty Mountain Hop? )

I'll see your Kenny Rogers singing something totally outta character, and raise you one Dolly Parton singing Led Zeppelin!
The words to the theme song from Gilligan's Island fit right into the melody of Stairway To Heaven, and visa versa... -Mike

Another small local (Now retired) band I used to follow had a theory that the lyrics to Amazing Grace could be sung to any tune... And they'd stand by their theory too. I don't have any versions online, but some tunes they sung Amazing Grace to: 16 Candles Mingulay Boat Song Scooby Doo Theme Song Gilligan's Island Adam's Family Beethoven's 9th Symphomy, 4th movement (Ode to Joy) Love me Tender 6 Trombones

Hey Serk you're right. I apologize to you and Robert. I was being a complete a-hole.
But I still liked Dolly's version.
