In what our beloved "Grumpy", Bill could only describe as a sudden wobble he was violently thrown from his Valkyrie Interstate just after our last fuel stop about a mile south of route 50 on 471. He was transported to Lakeland hospital from the scene just after 5:00 pm Saturday. Bill did not lose consciousness and was aware at the incident. I spoke to Murphy just after 10 pm Saturday evening and he relayed to me that Bill had fractures and cuts to his hands, had received several stiches, and had other lacerations, no apparent internal injuries at this point and was to have further examination of his knee/leg.
BCoy's daughter in an unbelievably professional cool headed manor relayed Bill's vitals and location over the phone. A northbound passerby stopped and threw out road flairs instantly that certainly helped prevent any further problems at this remote location. Lake County Sheriff's office and paramedics responded immediately to the incident.
Any cause at this point would be purely speculation. Once again full helmet, and proper riding gear has played a major part in this outcome; no question at all. Fellow riders, you have to wear this equipment.
I will relay further information as relayed to me from Murphy, as Bill see's fit to announce. At this point may we offer prayers for Bill's healing and recovery in the days and weeks ahead.

Prayers for Bill and his family. Thank God for competent folks on scene.
Is there any immediate needs we can help him and family with? Motorcycle recovery? Family needs?

Please keep posting status on Bill.  We were headed that way and after a fight with my GPS jumped on 75 to 52.

Speedy recovery to Bill.  Shea must have been his guardian angel, well done.  If we can help let us know.

I can only add to what everyone else has said. How quickly things can happen. Thanks for letting everyone know. God Bless him.
What about his bike? I can get a trailer and be where it is in short order. If any one knows, maybe Murphy?

Bill, see what happens when you try to show off by standing on the seat like Indian Larry? We're just too old for such stunts. Seriously my friend, I'm glad to hear it wasn't any worse, even though what has been reported is bad enough. Prayers for healing and guidance of the doctors decisions. Hope we hear there are no broken bones in the leg.

Many prayers from the Coy household; my daughter was very calm, cool, and collective during the whole situation. I am very proud of her and her actions by taking control of the 911 call an relaying good info to the operator so the EMT crew had a good idea of what they were about to encounter at the accident scene. Her actions enabled me to secure Bill's bike and get it off to the side of the road. His bike iappears to be repairable at first glance, Bill will be the one to meticulously determine if the frame is sound, he definitely has his work cut out for him.  Based on how the bike came to a rest and the damage done ... the bike hit hard on the left then bounced to the right as as it slid to rest on the opposite side of the road shoulder.  This accident could have been much worse, Bill's injuries were definitely minimized due to his personal protective equipment (PPE).  Thank you James for posting an update and yes you are correct about wearing our gear, as experienced riders we often overlook our PPE especially when the summer temps creep up with the humidity.
God Bless and many more prayers for a very speedy recovery!

As far as a trailer, keep in mind we have the ramp free which goes flat to the ground and it is currently in Zephyrhills so we can use that to retrieve the bike if needed as well....just let us know

Let me know

While I have not had a physical update today as of yet I spoke to Murphey this morning. He was going to work with Bill's wife to get bike release papers in order today if possible as the bike is property, there are legal issues that have to be attended to for said release from the towing company. The towing company is selected on a rotation basis by the investigating Florida State troopers. We did inquire at the scene about having it taken to his home at the time, it was not an option we were allowed by state LEO due to proof of ownership, owner release, etc..
I have a single bike trailer in possession and ready to hitch up and go that I used to transport my own tourer from Alabama; it should be adequate to pick up the bike in Bushnell and return it to Bill's home. I thank those also offering the same and until the bike is at Bill's home I would like to retain the offers for other trailer use if the need should occur for some unknown reason. We would have liked to have been able to pick it up today but the impound lot was not open for recovery today(Sunday). As long as our paperwork is in order we should be able to pick the bike up by 5:00 pm Monday.
As I had mentioned BCoys daughter, I had not thanked or spoke of Bill Coy's own actions in coordinating not only the rescue but also getting the bike up out of the birm and collecting every single bit, piece, part of the bike, effects, everything of the incident. A task that Murphey nor myself quite frankly do not have the physical strength to do. Anyone that has tried to push their Valk on rough ground, up a grade knows this. Once again, Bill Coy, Thank you.
I will update Bill's progress as the information becomes available for release that might be relayed for posting.
